Being successful means consistently pursuing and achieving meaningful goals, fueled by passion and commitment. It involves embracing challenges, learning from failures, and persisting with unwavering determination. Success is not solely measured by external accomplishments but also by personal growth, fulfillment, and the positive impact one has on others. It requires a balance between ambition and integrity, a mindset of continuous improvement, and the ability to adapt to change. Ultimately, success to me is living a purposeful life aligned with one’s values, while finding joy and satisfaction in the journey of self-discovery and contribution to the world. This is how I would explain my perspective on and experience with succession. There have been occasions in my life when I mentally set goals and took actions to move toward their fulfillment. For instance, I prepared the steps necessary to run a successful business before starting my own during my junior year in Highschool, and as my business has grown, I’ve made sure that the stages I’ve established for the objective are completed on time.

My name is Kiera Hunter, and I am an 18-year-old from Detroit, Michigan. I recently graduated from Cass Technical High School as part of the class of 2023. It was during my junior year when I started experiencing terrible breakouts on my skin after using popular soap brands. Concerned, I decided to investigate the ingredients and discovered harmful chemicals that were detrimental to the skin. Determined to find a healthier alternative, I took matters into my own hands and began creating my own soaps. Using a base of oatmeal and shea butter, I incorporated herbal powders and essential oils to ensure that my soaps were 100% natural and safe for the skin. With a soap that has only natural, skin-improving ingredients, this aids both me and others in healing their skin. When I first began out, I had no viewers, but I made the choice to give my friends small samples of a soap bar I had made with chlorella powder and spearmint essential oil. Much to my surprise, they absolutely loved it. They raved about the delightful scent and how amazing they’re skin felt after using it. They adored the rich lather and the soothing sensation it left behind. Encouraged by their positive feedback, I decided to gather more people and reviews. I created Instagram and Facebook pages to showcase my soaps, hoping to reach a wider audience and share the joy and benefits of my creations with others. What sets me apart from others in the industry is my commitment to raising awareness about the detrimental effects of harmful ingredients in soap while also providing a solution. Furthermore, the unique selling point of my products lies in their exceptional formulation. Crafted with utmost care, my soaps are meticulously crafted using 100% natural, vegan, and organic ingredients. These carefully selected components boast a range of beneficial properties, including antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging attributes, among others. By offering products that are both safe and effective, I aim to provide customers with a superior alternative in the soap market.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

Attending vendor events emerges as the most effective source for attracting new clients to my business. These events not only allow me to showcase my products to a larger audience, but they also present valuable opportunities for networking with fellow creators. By actively participating in these events, I am able to connect with a diverse range of individuals who are curious about my soap samples.

Moreover, distributing business cards during these events has proven to be highly impactful. They serve as a tangible reminder of our encounter and help to establish a lasting connection. This simple act of exchanging contact information paves the way for future collaborations and enables me to expand my network of clients.

In addition, social media platforms play a crucial role in advertising and promoting my creations. The power of social media lies in its widespread ability to reach a large and diverse audience. By presenting my products in a clear and visually appealing format, I ensure that all the relevant information, including the ingredients and benefits, is readily available to potential clients. As people come across these posts, they begin to recognize the value and significance of the herbal ingredients, sparking their interest and curiosity.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I firmly believe that the success I have achieved within my market is attributed to the quality of my product, my networking efforts, and the way I present my brand. When I view customer reviews, I constantly observe that my spearmint soap receives the highest praise, primarily due to its invigorating and refreshing scent. Taking such valuable feedback into account, I ensure that I consistently create products that are adored and cherished by my customers.

Furthermore, when engaging in networking activities, I find myself genuinely fascinated by the perspectives and experiences of other entrepreneurs. By demonstrating a keen interest in their journeys, I am able to establish meaningful connections.
