We were lucky to catch up with Kiera Atkins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiera, thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
My overall goal is to be a well known film producer and build a fortune 500 film company in Maryland. Growing up I watched a lot of shows and movies on channels like Disney, Nickelodeon, The History Channel, BET, MTV & Lifetime. A lot of channels had an huge impact on life. I strive to make others happy in life by putting a smile on their face through my work and having a positive impact on others. My purpose is to bring intangible memories, by bonding friends and family together through their shared love of a tv show, documentary or movie. This is how my family, friend and I would bond. I want to pass this tradition on to my children and as well as others.
Kiera, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Kiera Atkins, master control operator at Fox 45, and the CEO of Star Light Media Productions. I love capturing moments through the lens, and igniting emotions through film and music. I am a photographer, songwriter with the rap name “Suave with the Flo” and an upcoming film producer from Baltimore, MD. I’ve spent over 10 years honing my craft in the world of film and audio production. At 8 years old, I discovered my passion for film production through my church’s media ministry. Since then, I’ve been on a journey to bring stories to life on the big screen and through music. From my contributions at Fox 45 to pursuing an Electronic Media & Film Major at Towson University, audio/film production have always played a huge part of my life.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Spreading joy, one smile at a time! As a passionate creator, my mission is to inspire, motivate, and inform through my work. If I can touch just one person’s heart and bring a spark of happiness or motivation, it makes every moment of the process worth it.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Pursing a career in the entertainment industry is not for the weak. I’ve learned overtime that being a determined dream chaser, you will face adversity. How you respond will determine your outcome. From setbacks to triumphs, I’ve learned that perseverance is the key to unlocking success. Never give up! It’s so many challenges I’ve been through, from not initially being accepted into college to having difficulty finding work in the industry within the DMV. Through every challenge I faced I found another way if the original path seemed impossible. View every loss as a lesson learned.
