We were lucky to catch up with Kid Infamous recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kid, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today undefined
The most innovative thing I’ve done in my career is redefining how social media can function as a network. With my cannabis-based media company, Wimp Media, my business partner Danny Blaze and I set out to transform Instagram into our own platform—creating content that mimics the structure and feel of vintage television. When we started in May 2022, social media wasn’t a space for TV-style content, and even today, I rarely see anything quite like what we do. What makes our work stand out is the level of quality we achieve without a high-end camera or production team. Every piece of content is filmed and edited using just iPhones, with a two-man team—me and Danny—handling everything from concept to execution. By pushing the creative boundaries of digital media, we’ve built something truly one of a kind.

Kid, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kid Infamous, and I was born in Brooklyn, New York, but raised in Durham, North Carolina. My journey into the creative world started with music—hip-hop, to be specific. My father has been a DJ all my life, so music has always been deeply embedded in who I am. I started writing music in middle school but didn’t take it seriously until 2009 when I met my longtime friend and business partner, Danny Blaze, while working at Target. He was forming a rap collective called Jam$ Gang, and after hearing about me through a mutual friend, he invited me to join.
Over the years, Danny and I built a solid reputation in the North Carolina underground hip-hop scene, earning recognition from major publications such as Complex, Hip-Hop Weekly, and The Source. However, by 2016, financial challenges—like the cost of publicists, music videos, and promotions—made it difficult to continue. Danny retired from rap, and around that time, I took a hiatus after getting engaged and moving to the Bay Area.
Everything changed in 2020 with the tragic passing of our close friend and former Jam$ Gang member, Daniel Pressley aka Dinero P, who was murdered by Danny’s brother. This loss deeply affected us. Danny, who didn’t even smoke marijuana at the time, turned to cannabis during his grieving process. Over time, he found a renewed creative spark and, in January 2022, created a social media web show called So Tell Me What Happened. When he shared it with me, I immediately saw something unique in it.
By May 2022, Danny approached me to become his business partner in launching a media company. He coined the acronym “WIMP” (Weed Is My Personality), and I suggested we pair it with “Media” to give it a broad and versatile identity. That’s how Wimp Media was born.
Our goal with Wimp Media has always been to break the mold of social media content. We saw Instagram as more than just a platform—it could be a network. We create content that mimics vintage television, offering a nostalgic yet fresh take on digital storytelling. What sets us apart is that despite having no production team or high-end cameras, we achieve a professional level of quality using nothing but iPhones and a two-man team.
But Wimp Media is more than just a creative venture—it’s a tribute. We always say Wimp Media is technically a three-person team because it wouldn’t exist without Dinero P. Everything we do is in his honor.
At the core, I want people to know that Wimp Media is about innovation, storytelling, and legacy. We are building something original in a space where much of the content is copy-paste. And for me personally, my journey has always been about pushing creative boundaries, whether in music or media. Our mission is to establish ourselves as a respected platform and show that independent creators can thrive in this space—without big budgets, big teams, or industry gatekeepers.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Managing a team and maintaining high morale start with trust, creative freedom, and mutual respect. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to give my business partner the space to express himself without unnecessary restrictions. Creativity thrives when people feel empowered to take risks and explore new ideas.
Of course, there are times when you need to pivot from certain concepts or provide guidance, but overall, allowing room for growth is crucial. In my case, my business partner and I have built such strong trust and chemistry that I know he understands what needs to be done and how to execute it well. Will mistakes happen? Absolutely. But mistakes are opportunities to learn, not failures. I give him the grace to navigate setbacks, learn from them, and adjust accordingly.
By fostering an environment where creativity is valued and trust is the foundation, you create a team that is motivated, resilient, and constantly evolving. High morale comes naturally when people feel seen, heard, and trusted to do what they do best.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Our unique approach to marketing, which I affectionately term ‘magic 8 ball marketing,’ has played a pivotal role in cultivating our reputation within the market. By eschewing traditional pre-release announcements and adhering to a surprise release model, we foster an element of excitement and anticipation amongst our audience. This strategy mirrors the thrill of unexpected discoveries, much like the joy of receiving an unanticipated gift.
Just as cable television once captivated viewers with its spontaneous programing, our surprise releases keep our audience engaged and eager to see what we unveil next. This unpredictability not only generates buzz and intrigue but also cultivates a sense of exclusivity and loyalty among our followers. By consistently delivering unexpected and high-quality content, we have successfully built a reputation for innovation and a commitment to exceeding audience expectations.
