We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kiasha Delaney a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kiasha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
My background has always been in the medical field throughout my entire career. Then when the pandemic hit I was affected by company layoffs. My husband, daughter, and I became homeless. That’s when my mindset of working for others changed. I vowed that once we got back on our feet I will make it my life’s purpose to help others. That’s when the formulation of both the Non Profit No Veteran Family Left Behind, and the Staffing Agency Burgeoning Medical Staffing was created. It is with a great honor to serve the people that are in unfortunate circumstances get to a place of greatness. I have made it my life’s mission to help those that can’t help themselves. I chose to encourage instead of passing judgment. I treat people with the utmost respect no matter what situation they find themselves in. I help them by providing the resources to help them get to a point where my assistance isn’t required. I help them find housing, food, clothes, a permanent position, in order to be self sufficient. Which in the end is the greatest reward.
Kiasha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
No Veteran Family Left Behind is a nonprofit organization that helps the homeless of all walks of life for; men, women, and children become gainfully employed and find stable housing. As well as feed the hungry as well as connect them with the resources to not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. We have workshops that help them gain confidence to be in the workforce. We have counselors that work with them one on one or in a group setting. Which is very personal and they have a choice in their treatment to succeed. We have resume preparation, mock interviews, dress for success events where the people come and are given work attire. We have make overs that are to help people become self confident. Then we match them with a member of our staffing team at Burgeoning Medical Staffing to secure a permanent position. At the same time I became a Realtor to help people get into their forever home. All of which goes hand and hand. From the Non Profit relieving the heaviness of someone wondering where their next meal is going to come from, where they are going to live, and how are they going to come up with the income to maintain the bare essentials of their life. I am most proud of the treatment that each and everyone is treated. The organization sees past their current struggles. We treat each and every person exactly how we want to be treated. Everyone is treated with respect and dignity. Being a realtor is like having icing from a cake. The plan is to build sustainable housing and eradicate homelessness by 2035.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I had the choice to go back. I would absolutely choose the path I had taken to get me to this point. The reason being because I feel it is a calling and has always been my nature to help others. I’m a helper, I believe that each one teach one. I’m a sole believer that what you put out is what you get back. Do unto others as you want done unto you. My intentions have always been the purest form and highly regarded.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The fact that I literally was forced to start over. I went from have a stable secure job that I thought I would retire from in the medical field. I had to create a new lane to a pathway to the unknown. I have put in a lot of blood, sweat, tears, sleep deprivation, time, exhausted my bank account, and a lot of energy into the unknown. I went from doing something I love to something I had no clue about. All I know is I wanted to continue helping others. I knew I couldn’t give up. I learned that I had to give, give, and give some more. There were days and weeks and months of doing the work and not receiving anything in return. That takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and commitment. Running an organization, being the CEO, and being a Realtor. Takes a lot of patience and strength. There were times where I wanted to throw in the towel. In those moments I prayed and kept going.
