Alright, Kiara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you manage your own social media?
Currently we manage our own, but we hope to have a team in the future. Managing our page has allowed us to explore other creative outlets such as photography, content creation, and prop design. One of our favorite aspects of running our page is that have the opportunity to interact with our customers directly and build relationships.

Smitty Wellness is a family owned business comprised of family members: Kiara Smith, Renard Smith, RJ Smith & Khalia Smith. Smitty Wellness started off as a hobby in 2019 and officially became a business in 2021. Our business focuses on using handcrafted products such as candles, bath bombs/mixes, scrubs, and body butters to create a luxurious, yet affordable, self care experience. We understand how difficult it is for individuals to indulge in self care due to costs and time, so we create affordable, all natural products, customers can add to their every day routine. All of the scents are made and named by us. We take pride in researching each benefit of the ingredients that will go into a blend or mixture. This is also what helps us to determine what purpose the product will serve.
Not only do we take care of our customers, we also take care of our community in the form of giving back. Currently we have participated in back to school drive, clothing the homeless drive, and donating to non-profit organizations. In the future we hope to host free family self care events where families can make their own products and enjoy some pampering of their own. We also hope to host our own entrepreneur workshops in order to help others who may want to start their own journey.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for us has been social media. It allows us to reach a wider audience and to share feedback from current customers. We notice an uptick in orders when we are consistently post, re-post customers, and when we share ways to incorporate our products into our customers lives. We often use the polling tool to find out what customers want/need and create products based off of the feedback we receive.
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
We currently use Shopify to sell our products. We love that they have different plans based on the size of your business. We currently use their basic plan due to the size of our company but will upgrade once we start to expand and gain consistency in sales. Due to us having a basic plan, we do not have access to as many features as the other plans and we have to pay for certain upgrades but right now what we have works for us. Our plan gives us access to basic reports and metrics- which help us to better understand who and where our customers are, the popularity of products, and the ways in which customers are finding us. Our plan also allows us to track inventory, set up shipping costs, and create & organize email marketing.
Shopify also has tutorials that assist you with setting up your business, selling products, marketing, and managing your business. I have taken a few courses and they have been helpful, especially due to this being my first business.
