We recently connected with Kiara Ruth and have shared our conversation below.
Kiara, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I took a leap of faith last year and made the bold decision to leave my office job in pursuit of my personal and writing aspirations. While my job was fine, I realized it no longer aligned with my desires. I craved the liberty to express my creativity through writing in various settings, which led me to part ways with my job. Since then, my life has transformed. I now dedicate myself entirely to writing, crafting content from the comfort of my home or while on the move.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a master at multi-tasking and simplifying. She gracefully juggles her life as a mother and wife with her presence as a writer and NC tastemaker. Kiara drifts from mom to mogul effortlessly because she remains authentic and true to her brand in every step. This authenticity means telling her story truthfully, acknowledging faults, and being transparent while growing and learning. Kiara is a mom to Miles who is 10 years and the wife to Dr. Terrance Ruth who is a Raleigh Mayoral Candidate and a professor at NC State University. Kiara and her family have a cute rescue-dog named Oakley.
I write for my blog, The Banana Moon, a vibrant lifestyle platform where I delve into various aspects of life such as travel, food, relationships, culture, and beyond. The inception of The Banana Moon was a tribute to my own journey of self-discovery and a reminder to never stop dreaming, inspired by my son Miles. I am grateful for the decision to wholeheartedly commit to this endeavor.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I expanded my audience by staying true to my authentic self and upholding my core values without compromise. My approach has always been to attract those who resonate with my message, while understanding that not everyone will connect with it—and that’s perfectly fine. Throughout this journey, I believed in giving as much as I received. By engaging with and supporting fellow creators, they reciprocated the support for my work. The growth I’ve experienced wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable support of my friends, family, and followers who shared my content. I’ve marched to the beat of my own drum, steering clear of trends and sharing content that brings me joy. Reflecting on my creations, it’s essential for me to feel a sense of pride in the work I’ve put out into the world.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
At the age of 21, I made the bold decision to relocate to Raleigh, NC, where my family and I now call home. Arriving in a new city without knowing anyone, I saw it as a chance to sculpt the life I envisioned for myself, drawing from my upbringing to propel me towards my goals. Raleigh played a significant role in my personal growth, shaping me in a positive light. I am grateful for the experiences and lessons this journey has bestowed upon me.
