We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kiara Ross. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kiara below.
Kiara, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I think the hardest thing as a creator, outside of creating itself, is finding consistent work and thriving financially in that craft. I’ve been working full time as a production assistant and I’ve recently started transitioning into being a full time actress and I have already noticed the struggles on constant auditioning and booking. Having a savings account is always a must.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I’m an artist and have always been. As a teen I taught myself how to do makeup and attended performing arts camps. Once I was in college I minored in theatre performance and majored in Public Relations. I’ve just always had an interest in art and the business of it. I got started in the film industry as an undergraduate volunteering for film festivals and interning at production companies. I eventually transitioned to working on scripted and non-scripted shows. However my true passion has always been in performance and I’ve decided to transition into that.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I personally believe that witnessing your own dream come to life is personally rewarding. Seeing yourself on a screen, seeing your art in a museum, having someone read your book, is truly rewarding. Then, of course it’s the change that your art can bring about.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I personally had to understand to enjoy the process and appreciate the growth. I think this artist/entrepreneurial lifestyle is unpredictable and can be draining but you have to keep going. You are not where you were a year or even 6 months ago.
