Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kiara Patterson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kiara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your professional career?
In my previous job, I felt an immense pressure to conform to a certain professional image that didn’t align with my true self. As a young Black woman, I often felt that being authentic was seen as unprofessional. This perception led me to create a work persona that was far removed from who I truly am. Adopting this persona was incredibly exhausting, as it required constant vigilance and effort to maintain a facade that was not natural to me. Over time, this facade became increasingly unsustainable, causing significant internal conflict and stress.
The effort to keep up this work persona had a profound impact on my overall well-being. I found it difficult to connect with my authentic self, which threw off my energy and seemed to cause blockages in my chakras or aura. These energetic disruptions manifested in various ways, including increased anxiety, stress, being short or lacking communication with people I love, and a feeling of being lost. I realized that the more I tried to fit into an image of professionalism that wasn’t me, the further I drifted from my true self, leading to a sense of disconnection and loss of identity.
Realizing the importance of being myself was a transformative lesson. When I began to embrace my authenticity, I noticed significant positive changes in all aspects of my life. Being genuine allowed me to relieve the stress and anxiety that had plagued me for so long. I no longer had to expend energy on maintaining a false persona, which freed up mental and emotional resources. This shift helped me to regain my sense of self-worth and pride, as I learned to value and honor my true identity rather than suppress it.
Embracing my authenticity has had a ripple effect, enhancing my overall well-being and personal growth. By being true to myself, I have been able to cultivate a more genuine and fulfilling professional and personal life. This change has not only improved my mental and emotional health but also positively influenced my relationships and interactions with others. Recognizing the importance of authenticity has been a crucial step in my journey towards self-acceptance and empowerment, allowing me to live a more balanced and harmonious life.

Kiara , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a down-to-earth Reiki Master and teacher who began my journey by confronting my own depression and anxiety during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. My approach to Reiki is grounded and realistic, acknowledging that spiritual practitioners are often perceived as always maintaining a high vibrational state. However, I believe that true spiritual practice includes recognizing our human imperfections and striving for consistency rather than perfection. My personal experiences with mental health have deeply informed my practice, allowing me to connect with and support others on a genuine level.
I offer a variety of sessions tailored to meet the diverse needs of my clients, including classes for aspiring Reiki practitioners, couples sessions, one-on-one treatments, and special requests for hospice, cancer house calls, and sessions with autistic children under 17. My sessions are designed to be relaxing, affordable, and accessible, with prices starting at $80. They provide a holistic approach to relieving the daily stressors we all encounter, such as work, family responsibilities, and internal conflicts, promoting overall well-being for the mind, body, and spirit.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
After multiple attempts working with business partners who were not prepared for the initial demands of service entrepreneurship, I decided that working alone was best. I met my true business “partner,” or my business mindset, through making many emotional mistakes and learning the importance of a logical approach to business matters. I became proficient in subjects I previously had no knowledge of, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and positive gains for my business.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I had to go back, I would still choose a profession in health and wellness because it plays a crucial role in unifying our communities and addressing many of today’s issues, including crime. By promoting physical and mental well-being, we can create stronger, more resilient communities that are better equipped to solve problems and support one another.
