Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kiara Hicks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kiara , thanks for joining us today. Has Covid resulted in any major changes to your business model?
I feel like COVID has changed this world drastically when it comes to handling a business. When Covid began in the US, I also became a first time mom. Everyday had its challenges whether big or small, but I was able to sit and reevaluate my purpose of why I love to do photography. First, my focus was on anything and everything with taking photos of anything I see. After reevaluating on the business and personal side, I wanted to do something that would not only capture memories but empower others at the same time. I wanted to work with women and have them express that “I feel good about myself” feeling that is always hidden deep down inside themselves.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Before I figured out a purpose for my photography, my only education of the field was in high school. I took class and tried to take photos of anything I saw. I did not have a mentor to call on for help but what did help?…YouTube! I would spend hours learning about lighting and angles. As I continued to learn more about being behind the camera, I didn’t test my knowledge until I graduated college and moved from Texas to Colorado. While exploring Colorado and what it had to offer, I dabbled into landscape photography. Later as time went on, I wanted to branch out and learn about portraits. With that being said I began to join networking groups. Hoping to connect with different women that would have the same mindset as myself when it came to expressing themselves and unleashing the real them.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect about being a creative is just using the mind and putting that vision to life. First putting the idea together
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social Media seems to be the new Word of Mouth when it comes to connecting others. Hashtags play a part of finding others that have the same idea as you! I did not think there were actually people out in the world who loves to share their art with others hoping to make that connection through photography.
