We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kiara Gray a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kiara, appreciate you joining us today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.

My first client story wow let’s see it was when I worked at Sephora for a Fenty Beauty event. I was told I was going to be mostly selling products but last min change of plan my boss was like we are going to have Kiara as one of the artist. When I tell y’all I was shaking I mean i county even line my clients lips right but for what ever reason she loved it lol

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Hi Guys I’m Kiara I’m Celeb Makeup Artist. I’ve been working in the beauty industry for over 8 years but full time 2.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many different people from different backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities. What sets me aside from other artist is my versatility. I can do soft glam and turn it into dramatic, make up or what people like to call cost to make up or even drag.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

A story that illustrates my resilience is being put in a position where I had to choose my job over my career. I was working for a particular make up brand, and I remember being sat down with my bosses boss and she told me if that I had to give up the opportunity to do a very huge bridal party to work a Saturday and I had to choose between that and that wedding party and I decided to go with the wedding party because when I was making more money so that was a no-brainer but to for you to ask me to give up a job made me look at my situation, completely different, and realize that I’m just a pond to the corporate world.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

How I build my audience on social media was solely on going viral. I did several transformation make up looks and it was eating the girls up. Everybody started following me and liking my picture and then that’s when I got my first celebrity to actually see that and I actually a lot of opportunities came from the viral post, and I am so grateful for the client today because she literally was booking her birthday shoot, and it turned into something unstoppable.
