Hi Kianna, thanks for joining us today. How do you think about spending on the little things / small joys when finances are tight?
I treated things that were self-indulging as if it were a reward. I wouldn’t spend any money on anything that I desired, unless I felt as if I deserved it. If i had a successful work week, I would end the week getting myself something I like. When I was in school, if I passed a test I would reward myself with eating out or getting a fro-yo. I wouldn’t spend money on anything unless it was a necessity or if i wanted to celebrate a win– big or small. The key to this is discipline. If you do not teach yourself how to stick to your principles and follow through, you will lose every time.

My name is Kianna Edwards. I am a Licensed Esthetician, Makeup Artist, and aspiring Lifestyle influencer. I am the CEO of Bodied By Joy Aesthetics. I specialize in Body waxing, makeup, and skincare. I got into the industry after being obsessed with beauty and having a visual of my future in a dream, which was the moment I knew that this was the path for me. My business revolves around self-care and making sure every individual that walks through my door leaves transformed. I believe in taking my time to get to know my clients and giving them the best quality services that I can provide. I used to be extremely shy, but this business has taught me how to come out of my shell and really engage with my clients. I want people to know that I am dedicated to my purpose, and I can’t wait to meet some of you!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe just being transparent and real with my clients is what has helped build up my reputation. I make sure to inform my clients of the services that I provide and answer any questions they may have. I am always respectful and I never try to be anyone but myself. That’s it, just be you!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth. Ironic how in a world full of technology, word of mouth is still the best market strategy. My clients send me friends, family, co-workers, you name it. I always make sure to ask them to tell everyone about me when they leave. It is a hit or miss, but it has worked for me the best.
