We recently connected with Kiamonique Martin and have shared our conversation below.
Kiamonique , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I never do anything just because, it must align with my God given purpose for the purpose of God’s glory. For this reason, my most meaningful project that I would like to refer to as, “my assignment” currently is Behind Closed Doors (BCD), which was established April 2016. I am the creator, director, and producer. BCD is my most meaningful assignment because the objective is for God to be glorified; for people to leave never being the same again. BCD is an “eye opening” experience that will trigger you to self-reflect, and thirst to evolve into wholeness. God gave me the vision, and the blueprint to bring people out of shame, embarrassment, depression, and every form of darkness you could image because God wants to send a clear message that the plot to kill, steal, and destroy God’s children will not prosper. Behind Closed Doors is designed to give survivors from all walks of life who are no longer trapped in their past hurts, a platform to share their nonfictional “behind closed doors” story in a creative real-life theatrical monologue to give the audience an inside visual of their story with props, costumes, and sound. The realistic approach takes the audience on a journey that is captivating. You will feel like you were a part of the story, that’s how genuinely real it becomes. This platform is designed to mend families, break generational curses, heal, restore, and deliver. This platform glorifies God, and bring salvation to unbelievers. I give God all the glory for the opportunity to have consistently shared Behind Closed Doors from 2016 to present. I get excited when someone approaches me, and ask, “Are you the lady from Behind Closed Doors?” They would share how the experience changed their life forever. I am fueled to continue pressing and creating. Be on the lookout for the next Behind Closed Doors experience November 8, 2024.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Baltimore native; a woman of great strength, leadership, perseverance, resilience, and innovative creativity. I am a proud mother of two teenage boys. I am a dual graduated of Coppin State University (HBCU) where I earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education Human Development, and a Master’s of Science Degree in Adult Education Administration Supervision. Currently, I work for the Board of Education, Baltimore City Public Schools. For leisure, I enjoy shopping, painting, concerts, and International traveling. I value family, friendship, sisterhood, and most importantly, a firm foundation with God. Without Gods direction and strength, nothing is sustainable. It is necessary to have a personal relationship, and understanding of who God is in my life. For this reason, God’s compassion, protection, healing power, and ability to always be a provider, I have been able to endure, and overcome several types of abuse, abandonment, and cancer, just to name a few. However, it didn’t kill her. I use my past pain, and struggles of the past to become a vulnerable storyteller through poetry. I currently have a poetry cd that was released in 2021 entitled, “Behind the Smile.” This is a part of my healing to wholeness of mind, body, and soul.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, my mission is to see the evidence of people lives changing, or beginning the process to be the difference in their own life, and in the lives of everyone they are connected to. Knowing people will be changed and literally taken out of darkness truly drives my creativity. God gives me insight, and a step by step blueprint of how He wants to execute each monologue for each individual. Brave survivors from all walks of live drives my creativity as well.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being creative is the response I receive from everyone who is fully engaged in the Behind Closed Doors experience. I am considered to be someone who is, “out of the box” bringing vision to the mental aspect of the persons who are brave enough to tell their story. It’s rewarding to go the creative route, and people can still identify, and most times, relate to the concept. I like to go to the depth of my soul to pull up everything that I can use to paint a picture to give a realistic experience. I want people to feel what the person on the stage is feeling to provoke empathy, and compassion.
