We were lucky to catch up with Kia Hill recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
I had a Bride contact me in distress. She had a dress made from a family member that didn’t quite turn out the way she imagined. She reached out to me with little time left before her big day. Long story short we had a quick consultation ordered some items quickly did a fitting and I revamped the dress she had in time for her wedding. That was one of the greatest feelings I’ve had to date
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My Name is Kia Hill I’m the CEO/Owner of K.E.A. Couture Fashions (K.E.A. Pronounced like my name but it means Kapturing Everyone’s Attention bc that’s our goal). I got into fashion bc my mom gave me an ultimatum at 19/20 after H.S. So between hair and fashion I had to chose. I didn’t want to stand on my feet over people’s heads all day so my choice was fashion. I went on to get my bachelors in Fashion Design & Marketing at A.I.U. and had NO clue what I wanted to do with it. I started with alterations then a friend asked for a suit. (I do not like making suits btw lol) but from there I would just attempt at making any and everything to build my craft up. It took ALOT of discipline to get to where I am today. A lot of bad reviews some friendships were lost due to things not being what they thgt it should be but it made me stronger and more willing to work harder to better myself. I provide clothing for women of all unique shapes and sizes. None of us are the same. I like to call it Victorian Couture. Bc in the Victorian era women were considered larger in size. I currently do a lot of tutus those are my fav! I’m different bc I genuinely have a heart for my clients. I’m not out for the money it’s really about their smile when they wear my clothes. And how it makes them feel. I’m most proud of releasing my first clothing line this year actually. It took me forever bc I didn’t want to be like everyone else. And it took ALOT to come up with something that was actually mine. For future clients I would like you to know whatever you buy from Kea Couture Fashions just know it was made by me to fit you custom and with passion and love. I’ll always go over and above for you as my client. I’ve been doing this a long time and don’t see myself leaving no time soon
How did you build your audience on social media?
Honestly you MUST be sociable and be yourself. People can see thru fake and they won’t want to buy into that. You gotta keep it honest, while being relatable to your target audience. Interact with them. Let them see the real you. I had to learn that. And it comes easy if it’s authentic and genuine.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Majority of my clients came from 1. Word of mouth and 2. Me removing a lot of idle people, family and friends from social media and adding random women who look like they wear my style of clothes that I make. It’s definitely true people that do not know you support way more than family and friends. So it’s nothing personal but it has to be done. Most of them want to spectate anyway.
