We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kia And Deja a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kia , appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
We appreciate all of our customers and add stickers, thank you cards and tealight samples or wax melts, etc. in their packages. There is always something for everyone, whether it’s written words, blogs, vlogs, motivational posts. One of our new customers followed our IG page. I noticed that she had some beautiful pictures of her cute Boston Terriers. I decided to add a customized gift to her package, a Boston Terrier keychain and doggy stickers with a card as a thank you for being a new customer. About a week later she emailed thanking me for the added gifts. She told me how much it moved her as she’d recently lost one of her dogs to an illness. She expressed how sad and depressed she was at her loss and that she’d not smiled in a very long time. I was totally shocked when I read her email, as I had no idea about her loss when I originally sent her package. We exchanged some kind and encouraging words to each other. It truly made all the difference to me to make someone’s day brighter! Our motto is: “Kindness is currency”. You truly never know what people are going through and how one small act of kindness can have a positive impact in this world!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a mom-and-daughter duo who own and operate The Golden Goddess. We specialize in soy-based esoteric and seasonal candles that are infused with protective herbs, crystals, organic essential oils, and Phthalate-free fragrance oils. We are currently based in Central Florida and have an online shop.
In addition to candles, we offer insightful blogs on our website for customers and followers to enjoy. We are also present on various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to share products, motivational content, and adventures with our customers and followers.
We’ve been traveling much more since the Covid-19 restrictions were reduced. It has helped us grow and branch out to new places/markets.
During our travels, we love to network and meet new people. We both work remotely and often travel to explore new places. We always bring our products for people to sample. Our last two recent trips were in Salem, MA and Portland, OR. We had so much fun creating content, taking photos as well as engaging our social media followers to journey with us via stories and posts. We went to Salem during the fall season. We visited many popular landmarks and movie sites such as Hocus Pocus, Ropes Mansion, and Bewitched (which were such great photo ops btw!) Our trip to Portland was also amazing. We explored the beautiful lush Japanese Gardens and the Pittock Mansion, a gorgeous French Renaissance-style château in the West Hills of Portland. The nature in these areas was stunning and we were sure to get plenty of photos, videos, and content for our social media and website.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
We are two hardworking dedicated spiritual women who have consistently put in much time and energy to growing our family business. My daughter and business partner has a 9-5 career and is also a full-time student, who I am excited to report is graduating this summer!
Our lives are full of challenges such as running a small business while having full-time careers, coming up with new product ideas, website maintenance, and creating fresh content for our followers, school, meetings, supplies, ads, etc. These are some of the many challenges we have successfully pushed through with flying colors.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Being consistent with social media content. That means connecting with our followers on a daily basis, no matter what we are doing throughout the day, we see it as a serious commitment. It is very important to be as consistent as possible with social media and marketing. The more views and followers you gain, the more potential customers you can have. I’ve gotten many followers organically by creating authentic, motivational, and creative content. We write from our hearts and also share content that motivates us – it really appeals to people. We absolutely love when people see our content and share it, that brings in so many new followers on a regular basis. Sure, we DO post our products, but we also share and create content and blogs that resonate with many people. We are slowly building a little community of our own via social media. Writing is a gift that we both love to share with the world. There is always something for everyone at The Golden Goddess, from candles to wisdom, written word, travel stories, sassy content, Women’s Empowerment, and definitely a few spicy laughs! We have a full package that keeps our followers and customers well-engaged on a daily basis.
