We were lucky to catch up with Khariyyah Shabazz recently and have shared our conversation below.

Khariyyah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

The most meaningful projects I have worked on are workshops where I get to inform and inspire others to take action within their communities. These workshop topics range from building meaningful relationships with youth to using your inner voice to get what you want in life. These are impactful because I am able to cater to all learning styles in order to get my point across. I am also able to interact with all workshop participants and engage in meaningful learning.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Khariyyah Shabazz founded Khariyyah Speaks in 2022, a public speaking platform that provides tangible solutions to community issues on a neighborhood level. While working within the community for the past 15 years, she saw the need to share the best practices amongst community engagement and executing community initiatives. She believes that whether your resident, community based organization, small business, or large corporation you play a role in impacting the neighborhoods you serve. My brand expands as my clients continue to grow. As a speaker I am proud to bring my resources to those who need it the most. Inspiring people to act is how we can change the world for the better.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?

There are a few books and individuals who has shaped my thinking and entrepreneurial spirit. I embraced having a balanced lifestyle between activism and self care from the book Pleasure Activism. I learned how to shape my own destiny from the books The Other Wes Moore, The Source of Self Regard, and The Alchemist. I have taken Lisa Nichols workshops and classes to learn how to build my public speaking business and confidence on stage. It is important to continue to grow as a professional, perfect your craft, and expose yourself to diverse point of views.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is providing others with education, exposure, a different way of thinking, and empowering others to take action. I am instantly energized when I am prepping presentations, writing speeches, and delivering a powerful message. It’s a complete reward to feel absolutely sure about your purpose in life and to enjoy what you are good at.
