We recently connected with Kharissa Love and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kharissa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My ‘Elixir of Love’ Substack has been the most meaningful project I’ve worked on. This Substack started back in December 2023. I had already started another Substack platform called Table #666, which is a fictional creative writing platform written in the perspective of myself hosting the reader to sit and connect with me. But I always loved personal development and wanted a creative space where I could share wisdom and insight, so I created ‘Elixir of Love’ as a wellness/personal development platform. Over the past couple of years, ‘Elixir of Love’ has evolved with me. So what initially was an informative platform for wellness lovers, like myself, has currently become a monthly newsletter which is dedicated to nourishing my creativity, sharing life lessons I picked up during the month, and a fun blog to experiment and take risk creatively. What I love most about this Substack is that its taught me to know I am safe to express myself however I choose. It also has taught me the value of consistency. It also motivates me to push my creativity in ways that may not make a lot of sense now but will when I look back at my creative catalog in years to come.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into the creative craft from a very early age. I remember getting an old beat up laptop from my aunt when I was young and writing stories and trying to create my own magazine on there. I studied Media in university so I always found myself creating little projects for myself or helping out my friends or classmates on their creative projects. After graduating, I tried to create my own media business that focused on getting hardworking creatives the opportunities to use their craft to secure their financial freedom. At the time, I had no connection or guide to what I was doing and what I truly wanted so I found myself taking on any creative job I knew I could do. It was exciting at times, but mostly confusing and frustrating as I found it difficult to navigate social media and maintain people’s attention on my business and my own platform. A couple years into trying to make the business real, it failed as me and those I initially planned to expand the business with were moving in different paths professionally and personally. I found myself burnt out creatively and lost the motivation to maintain the relationships with the creatives I was getting to know at that time. And I personally was in a very low space trying to navigate adulthood in 2020s. Shortly after that, the pandemic happened. Which allowed me to go back to my foundation of creativity and nurture myself as a writer. I began by starting a free Wix website to create a personal blog that was short lived. I then revisited my favorite social platform growing up to continue posting my writing, which I enjoyed because the platform had lost all popularity at that point so I felt liberated to write what I felt opposed to try to write for an algorithm. Eventually I found out about Substack and have been using that exclusively for my writing ever since.
What I love so much about continuing to feed my writer’s soul through Substack is that my platform is true to its name. It’s an elixir of me. It is a way for those who are a fan of mine, a friend of mine, or a future collaborator of mine to get to know me. I’m proud of myself for being vulnerable and authentic in every newsletter that I share. And I am especially proud of myself for releasing the perfectionist hump that had me holding back creatively to learn how to just show up and be better the next opportunity I get.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Nurture human made creativity.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
To share my light in hopes that it will inspire and help many others to shine.
