We recently connected with Khari Karade and have shared our conversation below.
Khari, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Looking back, I wish I would’ve focused solely on my music and making it as an artist, instead of ever going to college. Although I’ve made some of my favorite songs and beats while at Morgan State, I started fresh out of high school in 2019 with no real idea of what to do with myself.
I’ve been writing poetry my entire life, was in band in middle school (I played the trumpet), and started making beats my freshman year of high school (2015) with a cracked copy of FL. I also started writing raps around the same time, but only looked at it as a hobby.
Right before I got to college, summer of 2019, I was working at a Target overnight (hated it, was falling asleep on the floor constantly) and quit right before the semester started. Around that same time, I laid out possible life paths for myself, realized I had serious talent as a musician, and let my rap name come to in a dream.
Now from 2019, to currently, I’ve actually been attempting to take music more seriously. College stagnated my growth in more ways than it helped, and seeing as how I graduated Magna Cum Laude and still couldn’t get a job in my field… I can confidently look at college as a waste of time and energy that could’ve been better devoted to my craft and getting more attention. I’m thankful for the experience though, because now I have a real idea of who I am as an artist, and what I want to convey with my music.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is DialeInfinity, and I’ve been a rapper/producer since 2019. It’s been on and off because of college, but I graduated in 2023 and have been taking music a lot more serious since.
I don’t know if I can categorize my music yet, because I plan on singing and shifting into rock fully eventually, but currently I’d say it’s a blend of lyrical rap with my own distinctive beat style and take on politics, world affairs and the occult (I’m not a devil worshipper though, gotta make that very clear!).
What sets me apart from everyone else, apart from authenticity, is a sheer drive to make the best product I can while being as original as possible. I’m not the first lyricist, or rapper speaking about anything esoteric, or to wear a mask, but I haven’t seen anyone in a long time do so in a way that feels like the deep cut lyrical rap over an intense and muddy jazzy beat style.
I’m multifaceted, because although I can rap and produce my ass off, which I’m extremely proud of, I also make all my own covers, edit my own videos, and can act/screen-write. One of my goals as a musician is to direct, act in and score my own movies or movies done by someone else. I want to act just as much as I wish to make music, and I hope I can make a lifelong career out of both. I’m willing to work with anyone and am appreciative of all art, truly.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the freedom to do whatever you want as a creative. If I want to sing instead of bar out on a song, I can. If I wanna make a completely instrumental song, I can. I love having no restrictions in it. Part of the reason I probably won’t ever sign to a label.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’m completely independent, almost to a fault, because at times doing everything myself gets draining. I also found incredible difficulty in building a listener base, but I’ve never let this discourage me from being an artist. I like to think everything happens for a reason, and not to stress myself over the length of the journey, but rather that this is a human experience and things take time. I’m eternally thankful for everyone that’s listened and given me their attention thus far, and grateful for anyone that may continue or newly do it as I grow.
