Khalilah , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I hope my life, my story, and my journey will carry on for many generations. It will encourage others to tell their story and not be ashame of who or where they came from. I definitely know that people will remember me for asking. Are you ready for the Smoke?
Khalilah , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been interviewed on iHeart Radio with Ray Dejon,WatsUpBk Podcast, Indy BookSlam on Clubhouse & The regular Show. She has also been featured in Queens Chronical. I continue to donate books to Federal, State, and local jails to help inmates with literacy. I am most grateful for my life experiences and that I able to share her journey with the readers.
My experience gave me the courage to write my story and share with others that maybe ashamed of their family past.
I became more knowledgeable on how to help others to share their experiences the way I did.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part about being an Author is that I am being heard. Knowing that my story has been read by others is an amazing feeling within itself. I believe that I am encouraging someone that has gone through trama to get help for themselves. I couldn’t ask for anything more.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I couldn’t write or share my story by myself. It took me 15 years to complete my first book. A Feen’s Family. I was struggling to get through the self publishing part of it. I reached out to lady Ty The Great whichis my cousin to assist me. She a writing and self writing class. She has coached over 100 people. So why not me. Three years later, I have 4 books working on my 5th and Coached a few Author’s. Lady Tys still guiding me in my writing journey.
