We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Khalif Hollis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Khalif below.
Khalif, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?
One of the biggest lessons that I have learned was that there are many things in life we as people won’t understand, but you must take each lesson as a chance to learn and grow from it. While being a photographer for eight years I learned many things in my journey. One of the many lessons that I’m learning while on this journey was to not take any moment for granted. In this field it’s constantly changing and we as photographers can sometimes get lost in work and lose focus on the goals we sat out to do; but if we actually take the time for ourselves and for our art to grow we can truly accomplish anything.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Greetings my name is Khalif Hollis owner of Only we prosper productions. Only we prosper productions was created two years ago while I was attending the illustrious Bethune-Cookman University my sophomore year of school. This company has an L.L.C in the state of Florida, and has been capturing peoples stories from weddings all the way down to every day’s greatest life moments. The mission statement for the company is as follows, “only we prosper productions is a cinematography company that’s only mission is to capture pure happiness behind each photo or video. A true foundation that represents this company is purity and a hard work ethic.”

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building a brand on social media for anyone can be a very difficult task to tackle at first; but as I keep growing I realized a couple of things that help made my business grow. While being on social media can be a fun thing to use to connect to family and friends who aren’t near, you can also use it for your advantage when it comes to your business. Family and friends play a vital role in helping any business grow. So while I was connecting with people on social media I was also networking in that same breath. By having family and friends posting my art by reposting on their feeds and sharing your business on their personal stories helped my business grow tremendously. Therefore I learned very quick that connecting with people from all over the world can also help grow your business in ways you would never imagine.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
While everything may look the part my business has definitely gone through some tough waters from time to time. At one point I felt as if I wasn’t connecting to my audience and peers who follow my work. Eventually I went through a phase in what I like to call is artist block. So everything creatively I had plan I couldn’t see the path in which I wanted to take anymore with my photography. At first I thought about stopping everything as a whole because I couldn’t feel it no more, and was overwhelmed with self doubt. Something had to change so I took it upon myself to go on certain artist get away trips to new places at least once a year to gain a sense of connection between myself and my art. Doing those trips it has overall changed how I view my art and especially helped my work ethic. Learning from different peoples cultures and how they view life has helped not only myself but my business in ways that I can’t explain.
