We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Khalid Bryan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Khalid below.
Khalid, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
Real estate can be a real dog eat dog industry. With over 200k Realtors in Florida alone and thousands more coming out daily. Brokers, who’s main goal is agent recruitment. Can get very consumed in recruitment and growth that they forget to take time out for the ones they have now with locked in potential. I feel there are so many people that end up thinking something isn’t right for them just because they never got the right opportunities to learn. With that, I spend my time as a broker teaching the agents I have and I share that with the public. That’s my organic outreach, I show how I teach and attract those who like the way they learn. My goal is for everyone to feel like they belong and are a part of something.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a very young child my grandparents taught me the idea of starting a business. Our chores came with taking turns making business cards to hand right back to our grandparents and pitch why they should hire us to do these chores for $25/week. After 2 month Sunmer I had $200! At my age I couldn’t even imagine anything that could cost that much! I got hooked on the idea. I dove deeper and deeper and had a new business idea every season! I’d wash this, sell that, trade these and flip those. I started with trading cards, went up to toys, then I was old enough to discover eBay whole sale and became a distributor. I eventually ended up with an auction license and started selling cars. The best step up from that was a house so off to real estate school I went where I learned about owning a brokerage and I was sold! As of today I spend my days helping my agents reach their untapped potential and make sure they get every opportunity possible. My goal is to see how far I cans everyone around me can get before I can’t go on anymore. My goal is to impact as many people in a positive way as possible. Everything else is just work along the way.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I first started I was off to a very strong start! A brand new agent with my name on the production boat more than the most seasoned agent in the office. I was in the office all day every day as of it was a job I had to clock into! I even used to call my broker to let him know if I couldn’t make it. He never cared lol. As soon as I close my biggest deal and the check is on its way, my license went null and void. I was getting married and my post license course totally slipped my mind.
I had to start ALL over. I couldn’t receive my check because at the time it came in, I was no longer a licensed agent. When I first got licensed it took me 3 tries to pass the state exam so I was STRESSED!
Back to real estate school I went. I had to retake the course AND retake the state exam. I really needed that check! I did it in about 2 weeks and was back in action stronger than ever!
I now teach the pre license course since I’ve taken it and passed TWICE, who else has that experience?
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Putting people before the check they come with. The biggest thing I’ve always stood by and have been criticized for is that I have no issue losing an entire transaction over the better of my client. Sometimes in the buying process people will get desperate and will try to settle and buy the last thing they see. If I genuinely don’t like a property I will talk them right out of it. It has to make sense. Even if it was their decision if it leaves them in a bad spot, I’ll forever be the one that put them there. I can’t live with the pressure of having someone feeling negatively about me out there so I ensure all my clients are happy with me as their broker and trust that they are in the best hands. I am here as a resource to all.
