We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kezia Luckett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kezia below.
Kezia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
It was December 2016, on Boxing Day, the day after Christmas. I awoke early feeling the need to go clear my head, so I put on my wet weather gear and headed out the door for a walk. Little did I know that this walk would bring me to a crossroads in my life.
As I walked I started to be bombarded with questions in my head, one of which would change my life for ever.
The question was “If you go back in time to a moment of adversity and give yourself advice, what would you say and would change anything if you could?”
With this idea in my mind I hurried home sat in front of my computer and began to type. After an hour I sat back and read what I had written.
Hidden with the pages was a concept for a book “The Pay it Forward Series: Notes to My Younger Self” and the starting point for my dissertation for my Masters in Positive Psychology

Kezia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Positive Psychologist, Well-Being Consultant, International Best-Selling Author, Speaker and Coach, who is passionate about helping individuals, teams and organisations flourish and thrive to create positive, impactful change.
I believe that everyone has the potential to achieve greatness, and that the key to success lies within us all. When we can be ourselves especially at work, we can step in our greatness and enjoy the work we do.
With expertise in Positive Psychology, Emotional Intelligence, and Behaviour Analysis I work with clients to understand and develop their strengths, build self-awareness, bolster resilience and develop effective strategies for success.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Before I became a positive psychologist I ran my own female based concierge company, growing it from three members of staff to 35 expanding in five different regions. At the time I was new to running a business and believed if you work long and hard you will be successful.
And it worked for a period of time. I started my day at 6am and finished at 11pm and every day was a work day and even when I wasn’t working I was thinking about work.
One day my coach stated “that she didn’t think my business was making me happy” with this running through my head I relayed this to my husband over dinner. My four year old son at the time replied “She’s absolutely right, you are always so grumpy”
Hearing my son say it made me realise she was right and I had been holding on to my business, the baby I had been growing for five years but I needed to let it go in order to grow. Wishing 8months I was back at school studying my masters and a new idea had come to me
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I recently got involved in a project that I believed in. Its mission felt so aligned to me that I gave to the point of self sacrifice, and for a short time I put another persons needs ahead of my own.
One of my biggest strengths is empathy and when over used, it can have a negative effect on my judgement and ability to see the truth of who others are and whether are values are aligned. With this in mind it is essential to keep refining our boundaries, sense checking our direction and honoring what we bring to the world.
