We recently connected with Keyonna Trammell – Persaud and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Keyonna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I giggled a bit at this topic in all honesty. The reason being is that the entire foundation of my business is built off a risk and faith. Prior to it’s creation I worked a job that was slowly but surely killing me. I loved what I did in a sense, because it was very rewarding in the fact I was able to help others potentially create a better life for themselves.. But, what made my position hard is the usual suspect, upper management. As much as I loved what I did, others began to make it so hard to continue on. I was in a constant battle of should I stay or should I go.
That is until one day I was sitting at work with the worst headache. I remember getting up to go outside and one of my eyes went blurry and “glitchy” in a sense. It scared m so bad I called my mom, she’s a nurse. I went back inside and laid my head down as she said and turned down all of the lights. After a while my vision cam to and my headache went away. I got a call from my boss who’d been watching me on the camera and never once asked was I ok. I knew at that moment I was done. Throughout the entirety of that job I battled with high blood pressure from the stress of dealing with management. Hence the blurred vision episode and also later finding out I was goin through a miscarriage from being stressed. That day I left, I had no clue what I was going to do. But, then I remembered my God given ability to turn cake and desserts into art. As they say, the rest was history. I vowed to be the type of manager I always wished I had.

Keyonna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I guess you could say I got into the industry all by accident. I’d been baking since I was a kid and everyone always told me I should start selling my treats to put a smile on other’s faces and make their bellies happy. After quitting my job I had in my last few years of college I knew I wanted to turn my passion into a full on business. At K&N Delectable Delights we provide not your ordinary treats. We provide an experience that sparks all of your senses. I pride myself on appealing to the eyes first, reeling clients in with the artistry of each treat or cake. I want my clients to be able to taste with their eyes first. You won’t find your ordinary cupcake or brownie around here. We take things up a notch every time. I’m known for being a perfectionist, but in a good way. My main goal is to build a lasting relationship with my clients and I make sure it’s known that their opinion matters. I’m constantly asking for feedback on what they liked or felt may need some tweaking. Taking care of my clients and putting a smile on their faces is always the end goal for me.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source for new clients by far is word of mouth, Nothing has beat it or come close to it marketing wise. With the experience we provide and the focus we put into building rapport with our clients, it has been the biggest provider for building our clientele thus far.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I’ve had to unlearn the teaching that the customer is ALWAYS right. Hear me out on this one, stay with me here lol. For so long I had this thinking and lived by it in terms of being a business owner. But, over time I’ve realized that you also have to protect what you have built. Sometimes you will come across customers who truly do not have your best interest at heart and will come after you and your business just because they feel like they can. Some feel that they can in a sense “control” you since they have paid you money. This is not the type of relationship you want to build on. You have to know when to stop trying to go above and beyond fr everyone, because not everyone is the right client for you. Learning to tell the difference early on will save you so much time and energy in the long run. I always remember that time is the most valuable thing in the world and you can never get it back. So, I’ve learned to protect my business, my sanity, and my time.
