Alright, Keyonna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

I always was a lover of beauty products – lip gloss especially. While I was a biology major in college I learned about plenty ingredients and supplements that are healthy for the skin. I quickly learned a of products I grew up and loved using were toxic for me and my community. When COVID hit I unfortunately had to pull myself from school and wondered what were the next steps in my life. I started Lock N’ Key Kosmetics as a brand that will provide healthy, affordable products for me and my friends to use. I got more support than I ever expected and turned it into an actual business!

Keyonna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Keyonna Hollingsworth and I am the owner of Lock N’ Key Kosmetics. I provide luxury cosmetics that are affordable and good for the skin. I include many natural oils like coconut oil, grapeseed oil, vitamin e oil etc. to nourish the skin while still giving the glossy look you desire. My brand’s slogan is “giving beauty a new meaning” and my passion is to make women feel beautiful and confident. My business is a brand that includes all women and shows us beauty is confidence, beauty is you.

Have you ever had to pivot?

I had a very hard time learning what you have planned in your life might not be the path you’re supposed to take. When I took a break from school I was really stressed because for so long going to school was a part of my identity. Starting my own business helped me place value within myself & showed me what it’s like to have a true passion for something.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.

I manufacture some products/ containers and make others. Since my brand is built on affordability and health I focused on sampling brands that was within the price range I wanted had quality ingredients. Finding the right vendor isn’t easy, you have to make sure you’re asking all the right questions to be sure the company you’re partnering with is reliable and great communication. I personally started off buying a vendor e-book I found online and that helped guide me on where to look and the right questions to ask.
