We were lucky to catch up with Keyla & Francis Salazar Rincon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Keyla & Francis thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Lolita Colitas was born after the pandemic, starting from the need to help many dog parents take care of their pets but from personalized attention and genuine love for the furry friend. Also based on our own experience with our baby dogs Luca & Rocco (rocco past way in January 😔)… we had to complain about them in a commercial daycare and our experience was not pleasant at all, we only received a single photo update of our babies on our trip which we could not enjoy 100%. That is why, at Lolita Colitas we focus on standing out for our attention and experience towards the pet parents where they receive photos and videos throughout the stay with us. As Keyla says “Lolita Colitas more than providing a service, it is an experience where the pet parents is enjoying a piña colada on a cruise through the Caribbean, knowing that his pet is being cared with a lot of love and fun.”

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello! We are Keyla and Francis, Venezuelan immigrants, professionals in the area of Marketing, advertising and sales living in the United States and wanting to achieve the American dream. But something was missing, and after the pandemic in search of a business that we could do with passion and today with so much love, Lolita Colitas was born. Dedication, discipline and perseverance were really the foundations to grow in the pet care industry and thus be able to stand out in the market. One of the things that differentiates us from the rest is our genuine attention, communication and love towards our customers. Also, the connection we have developed between us, pets and their owners (daddys ☺️). One of the problems that we have helped our customers solve, is that said by themselves, is that before they had years without being able to travel because they had not found a place where they felt safe to leave their pets and now they do it several times a year, so this is very valuable for us. Being able to impact the lives of others through just one thing “a genuine love for what we do.” The furry friends recharge us with love, energy and even free therapy😅♥️
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
After a few months of only using Rover to have customers, we decided to create Lolita Colitas and register on social media, google and have our own website. We realized that we loved taking care of pets and our own customers began to recommend us to their friends and family. In addition, to dedicate ourselves to uploading daily organic content on our social media and distributing pamphlets in the neighborhood. We have been blessed with beautiful customers and grateful for our work, so the Reviews were not long in coming in our Google account, this has helped us attract customers by seeing the love stories told by the dog parents. It should be noted that we are flexible, empathetic and attentive. We have prepared ourselves day by day to be better at what we do so after having established the daycare / boarding, we begin to expand our services by providing the service of Grooming, Pet Taxi, Cat sitter and deep dental cleanings without anesthesia. In this way, we have built our business with our first customers for 2 years and we can only be grateful.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Stop seeing this as a hustle and start seeing it as a solid, stable and constantly growing business. Time taught us not to underestimate anything or anyone and Lolita Colitas is a sign of it. So if you want to go for it.
