We recently connected with Keyla Belvin and have shared our conversation below.
Keyla, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I started sharing snippets of my life years ago via YouTube and Instagram. The goal was always to create a safe space for people who may relate in some of the life journeys that I have experienced. I wanted to provide representation in areas that I couldn’t find for myself for things such as health and wellness or just daily living in general. Also combining all of those aspects into my family and what that looks like individually and as a whole.
I think the main difference is that I am still working full time within my career and still decide to share pieces of my life without any monetary gain, No to say that it may not happen one day, but the reward is having people in my community reach out to me and share how much my transparency has helped them in their lives. That’s more than worth it.
Keyla, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a black women, a wife, a dog mom, a woman who battles mental illnesses, PCOS, and so much more, I like to call my platforms my virtual diary because I have openly shared so much about my path. My heart has always been to give back in some way shape or form. It my passion to be able to help people.
I am most proud of the fact that even though I expect nothing from what I share, I get to have the greatest feeling of warmth and togetherness when my story helps someone else.
The main thing that I want people to know is that everything comes from a genuine place. I am not an actor, I do not get paid or am not forced to share my story. I do it with the hope that it may help just one person, whether I know about it or not.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I think the only goal is to be able to touch the lives of as many people as possible. whatever blessings come in addition to that are a bonus. I would like to grow my platforms to reach those people who may be able to relate, but what is meant for me and my family will be.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
“You are not going to be everyone’s cup of tea.” I had to learn this as I started to receive feedback from those who didn’t understand why I chose to be vulnerable to the social media world. I had to reassure myself that my intentions are pure and always have been. My story does not connect to every individual and that is okay, because to those that I do connect with, that energy is more meaningful than any naysayers.
