Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Key Palmer . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Key, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?
We were about to open a store front in Leander, Texas and the Realtor decided to go with a pizza restaurant instead of us. It was somewhat frustrating but, 2 months later the first of the Covid Pandemic broke out. Being a Christian Faith based business we took it as a blessing in disguise. We stepped back and made all our coffee available in single cup pods and developed our cold brew. I started seeing food trucks coming into our Leander neighborhood and others. I approached HOAs in Leander, Cedar Park, Round Rock and other surrounding cities. We partnered with a great bakery and started holding pop up coffee shops in neighborhoods. The response was so positive that it opened up opportunities to hold these pop ups in apartment communities as well. We also began holding these events at schools as well.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We were looking at opening a coffee shop in Leander Texas. This shop was going to be a combination record store/coffee shop. The Covid Pandemic made us change our business direction and model. We have constantly looked at ways to improve our business methods, products and presentation. We only use top quality beans roasted in smaller batches to control flavor. We package our coffee in high quality bags, boxes and pods to ensureultimatefreshness. Our roasting process differs from others in many ways. These differences allow us to roast a coffee that is smoother, richer in flavor. It is also much lower in acidity. We have 15 different roasts including a Decaf, Half Decaf and a traditional Italian Espresso. We are always looking at ways to get more customers. An example of this is when my Father had heart issues he could no longer have as much caffeine so I developed a roast with half the caffeine. It is called Half Moon. I did it for him and it has become one of our most successful roasts that we have. We developed our Coyote Moonshine Cold Brew Home Kits that allows our nationwide customers to make our cold brew coffee at home a gallon at a time.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Our reputation for providing a great cup of coffee that is smooth and never bitter. When we are onsite we strive to provide a great experience that leaves our customers smiling.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The Pandemic made us reevaluate our business course and take our coffee to the people. Almost everyone was home bound and we brought our pop up coffee model to neighborhoods all over the North Austin area.
