We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Key Flight Captains. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Key Flight Captains below.
Alright, Key Flight Captains thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Heartstrings- our latest single is our most recent project we finished that I would have to say it is the most meaningful.
It’s a song about a failed relationship, which is something everyone goes through. Pulling of your heartstrings, it represents the toxic relationship messing around with your emotions and trying to get you to stay (manipulation basically) but in reality- you both know it’s not going to last.
I think it’s meaningful to everyone in the band. We all have thought we loved someone we were with but the person ended up being super toxic and it wasn’t good. You know bad things won’t last, but trying to end a relationship with someone you’ve had love with is an emotional rollercoaster. Which is what the song takes you on really, you can hear happiness, anger, confusion- all the emotions you face before, during, and after a breakup.
Key Flight Captains, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are Key Flight Captains! An alternative rock band based here in Houston, Texas. Just a 3-piece band of guys who have a burning passion to make music for the world to enjoy. We do believe we can help someone or change the world with music. We want to do that all while we make the music we love to put out! The leader Vox/guitar is Ryan English, the drummer is Corey Trump, and the bassist is Travis Taylor.
We are proud of the music we create. Each song tells a story, shares an emotion, or is something based off personal issues or solutions. Honestly, we just hope that everyone knows how much we love music, how much our fans mean to us, and how we hope to help someone with our music one day.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
People need to support local music more. Bands need to support each other more. Everyone can do more-including ourselves. With a society so stuck in the internet and glued to their phones, all us local artists ask for is simple things. Share our music or posts. Follow our social medias. Put our music into playlists and share those playlists! Tag us in things, comment to us more, talk to us more- we are all really nice and friendly people who would love to talk with our fans. Like our music and our posts. Any type of engagement and interaction truly helps a lot. Use local bands songs in videos. Stream our music as much as you can. Comment as many times as you want on our stuff.
If you want to go the extra step to support local artists, then here’s what you can do after you like, comment, and share all their stuff. You can buy their merch. Buy their music or CD’s. Buy tickets to their shows. Donate or tip the band as that goes towards gas, food, touring, and getting more merch made to sell.
It doesn’t matter which way you choose to support. A like helps. A comment helps. A share helps. Buying something helps.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Our main goal as a band is to make music we love to share with the world.
Beyond that though, we have many set goals we want to accomplish as a band. We would love to go on tours all around the world- every state in the US and then finally travel outside the US. We know we have a lot of fans in the UK and we would love to be able to play to them some day.
We have goals to work with some of the best producers around like Brandon O’Brien and mixer Andy Wallace. We got to work with Jim Wirt before who has done great work with Hoobastank and more. Really, that’s a huge one for us cause as of right now we produce and mix our own music in house and we just would love to work with the greats out there.
Just like any other artist, we have the goal to play shows with national acts- each of us have our favorite bands that we would only dream to be able to share a stage with! We have done shows with Rehab, Flaw, Saliva, and Black Oak Arkansas.
