We recently connected with Kevitta ‘KJ’ Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
Kevitta ‘KJ’, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear you experience with and lessons learned from recruiting and team building.
In the beginning, we started with two part-time employees, my partner and me. There were times that we were challenging as far as time and resources are concerned. We had to become extremely disciplined. On top of that, the realization set in that we had momentarily exchanged “good times” to focus on the hopes for a brighter future. We knew that the journey we chose to embark upon would be well worth the sacrifices.
I remember making my first call to a potential client, my hands were sweating, and my heart was racing. Although I had been anointed by one of the top international realtors in DFW, I still didn’t feel 100% confident. Nevertheless, I got passed the threshold, made the call, and was able to secure my very first transaction. After that first phone call, I knew operating in the real estate industry was my calling. I started to examine myself and visualized the approach I wanted to take with all my clients. I also pondered what I wanted the company to look like and the type of representatives we would employ.
I began to recruit team members once I mastered the entire operation, I value the knowledge I continued to accrue and understood if we had any chance of withstanding the market, then we must be equipped with a solid foundation. During the time that our company started to gain “steam”, we were amid the 2020 worldwide pandemic. This limited visitations with candidates, so we completed all of our interviews and training virtually. It was a painstaking process, yet we built a bulletproof system that has been working for us. We now have ten outstanding team members and three well-developed departments.
Although this model could be considered unconventional, I would not change the path that we forged. Hard work and strategy will always triumph over any circumstance that seems unfavorable. You must live life by design.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve always been very talkative and filled with ambition. When I was younger, I was elected President of my junior high class, my loving parents would always look at me with such pride whenever we engaged in quality conversations. It took a few years to navigate my skills and my passion but after my mentor suggested that I take real estate more seriously, I became laser-focused. I found myself helping people (which is my passion), and develop action plans to overcome a problem property without making improvements.
We are a solution-based investment company that proudly assists with off-market distressed properties. We pay cash and offer seam-less fast closings.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy that we have adopted to continue to grow our clientele is simply transparency and integrity. Each client is treated with fairness and equality regardless of the backstory, we strive to provide the best possible solutions.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Like many of my peer entrepreneurs, our company was initially funded internally. I sold all my stocks and drained my savings to invest fully in my vision. My partner began to source cloud funding which opened many other doors such as an ag-industrial property investment.
