Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kevin Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kevin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
I would say as an actor first for me I felt misunderstood because they assumed my limits not knowing I can do more than typical roles and range for theater & tv/film. I am a comedian also that gives me comic timing & depth I can bring to a dramatic character.

Kevin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born in Jamaica and we migrated to states where I was mainly raised in New York. It was my time in Florida for high school giving up on baseball, and taking drama classes that led me to that industry upon my return to NYC after graduation. The rest was more like a movie on how today came to be. I met my mentor by accident who gave me the tools and mindset needed to be focused on to get me to the level I needed to be at, his name is Robert DeNiro. From there many other favorite actors/actresses gave me insights & felt I had something that can get me there. Timing continued to guide me where one time I was forced to do stand up from an old acting friend that produced standup gigs and off broadway shows as well! He was an actor/comedian/writer who believed in me when I was green as a bloomed Christmas tree. I followed his belief and lead where just like that the adventures began. I was performing many venues, plays, and writing for a sketch comedy group I was part of. Meanwhile, I went for extra work on a soap opera “All My Children” to become a reoccurring character! I was juggling so much, I also ran my own karaoke nights at 3 bars and got recognition for my singing and unique outfit style in the NY Post & MTV. I had private training at NYU, attended Lee Strasberg Institute NYC, HB Studios, One On One Productions where you meet casting, acting agents, & Managers for talent. Overall, I was truly blessed for my family supporting me and close friends believing in me! Especially, the high up working actors/actresses that made time for me and being there when needed. Many times I reached difficulties, but I always knew rejections and the many times I’ll be confronted by those who were or feel threatened by me. So I was prepared for disappointment and distractions. There are so many talented artists in my field and some are better than me however, I feel I have layered experience and stamina to get there than many who will give in. I’m proud to have a grand support system and group around me. For those that follow and/or my fans, the one thing I want them to know about me is that no matter the temperament life give me I’ll always be grinding to get my seat in this industry as a actor/writer/comedian/

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I never really thought my journey would influence many others. I’ve always had people seek me for advice on life and love etc but rarely on this industry. But, it’s very uplifting and inspiring seeing them grow and not give up on their dreams.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
People in this industry come in fall for the same known garbage and vile behavior to a quicker way to fame….and they all fail. I’d tell them that fame chooses you not you choose it. Be transparent on what you want and where you’re at. This industry can be dark and disheartening, but you can avoid that route and find creatives and passionate talent that spread the wealth and want the same success as you do.
