We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kevin Veal. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kevin below.
Hi Kevin, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
When it comes to manifesting an idea. I first envision what it is in my mind that I want to create. I mentally play with different ways to bring forth before settling on the idea. That helps me to bring out the best version. Now I’m ready to get all the necessary tools, images and whatever it is that’ll help me execute the idea properly and to it’s full potential. Once that’s accomplished I critique and correct what needs to be corrected., then it’s done!
Kevin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kevin Veal but I go by the nickname M. C. Kev. or M.C. I’m an visual artist/ poet born and raised in Mount Vernon N.Y I’m the CEO of Veal Enterprises Inc. I’m also a member of Arts Westchester under the teaching artist roster. I’ve been featured in several publications like Voyage, Black Westchester, Arts Westchester newsletter, etc. Recently I’ve been honored by THA Gyles foundation for positive impact. I teach art classes at the Rye Arts Center and Don Boscoe community center. I’ve created art for celebrities such as JadaKiss and Mary J. Blige. I get commissioned to pain or draw for clients from all walks of life. I sell my paintings/artwork at pop up shops or via social media Instagram: @ m_c_kev. I also sell prints of my creations upon request. My brand represents me as an individual; in which I hold in high regard.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I began building my audience on social media; by constantly posting my art. I get potential clients involved by asking them what do they think about what I posted. I also share ideas and concepts with my audience via social media. I post whatever I got going on so they can buy into my brand or art. Because art imitate life and life imitate art which is a lifestyle!
Have you ever had to pivot?
Back in 2018 I had a flagging job that was taking too much of my time and energy. Every time I get off work I’m too tired to create pain or draw. My energy was thrown off so I had to go back to the drawing board by quitting the job. Because anything that’s taking up too much of my time that’s not working towards what I’m trying to be and become is something I can’t do! Once I did that I was able to have time to create and do what I do!
