We recently connected with Kevin Sebastian and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, thanks for joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
Yes, absolutely. Starting my business has been a wild journey and I’ve made some mistakes along the way. However, I wish I would’ve started learning to code much earlier in my life and started freelancing my services much earlier than I did. I always suffered from the fear of failure and imposter syndrome. I always listened to those online that said “You can’t freelance until you’re an industry expert.” And I kept putting my dreams and life on hold. So yes, I’d say if you want something, just go for it.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Well, my name is Kevin Sebastian, I’m a freelance web developer and the owner of ModnApps LLC. I’ve always been fascinated by technology, and I love sharing my knowledge and helping them make their lives easier. As far as my business goes, ModnApps, I’ve gone through a lot of different niches and industries: android apps, blockchain, web development for startups, etc. What I found now is helping small businesses with getting their online presence established with a website that truly speaks with and reflects their brand.
My favorite type of websites to make are eCommerce websites, as they provide me an outlet to solve problems creatively and analytically. What separates my services from those who offer similar services to my own is that I don’t want to just build you a website and get your money, I want to see that website help those who wish to escape the rat race and achieve their goals. I want to give my clients a website that will be in line with their brand and properly reflect that to their audience. What I want my potential clients or people, in general, to know about me, my business, and my brand is that I’m not just making you a website, I’m giving you a way to further elevate your brand in this online world to help you fullfill your goals.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I try to provide value to every prospect that talks to me, I want every person to walk away from the conversation learning something new. Even if someone isn’t interested in my services I want them to gain something from the conversation and maybe later they’ll think “Hey, I learned this from Kevin of ModnApps and this advice helped me.” That’s the power of having a brand. Now after I’ve finished with a client, I reach out and ask them how things are going, how their sales are going, is there anything that they’re unsatisfied with or wish they could improve on and I try to help them with that. I want each client to be confident that they picked the right service for their business needs.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media gets a lot of harsh criticism and I don’t believe it’s always warranted. Sure, something on social media can be awful, but there are tons of opportunities to make money using social media. I’ll say this: if you want to make a profitable business, you need to build and establish your brand, and how do you do that? Make sure everyone knows you, who you are, and what you do. Post everywhere, on as many social media, as you can, provide valuable content, write blogs on medium, make reels on Instagram, Tiktok videos, and articles on Medium, join Facebook groups and make people know who you are.
In those beginning stages, you need to spread yourself as wide as possible so you can reach as wide of an audience as you can. And post daily, and yes, I realize this is going to be hard and stressful, but so is growing your business and that’s hard to do without that brand and authority in your industry. If you see someone that you’d like to have as a client, network with them, comment on their stuff, build a relationship and don’t sell your services, solve their problems and sell the solution. You won’t get paid for posting content for a while, but attention is the new currency, if you can get eyes on you then you can make money. So when you post, it’s going to feel devastating not seeing results, and you will get paid for it, you’ll just be paid later because you’ll have that brand, that authority, and prestige, which will allow you to charge more because people will say “I don’t want just a website, I’ll want a website made by ModnApps.”
