We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kevin Sanders. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kevin below.
Hi Kevin, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Being an artist was always in the cards for me, I have an abundance of knowledge when it comes to the many art forms. But telling stories through the lens of a camera was the most beautiful thing ever to me. I’ve always been serious about what I wanted to do but I never knew how to get started, that’s until I met a little girl named Claudia. She was diagnosed with leukemia at a young age and never got to experience life as a kid or an adult like me and other people did, after seeing her like that a force shook me and told me my time is now! Long story short even though she passed at a young age I still use her as fuel to drive myself forward, not just with my art but in my everyday life as well.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Kevin “Aurange” Sanders I am a fashion editorial photographer and film director/ cinematographer. I think what sets me apart from everyone else is that I don’t limit myself into know just one thing, I am a sponge when it comes to the arts. I’m always constantly learning or have an interest in something that I just saw someone else doing, if it’s not something in my realm as in photography or filmmaking I like to dabble in what the next person is passionate about. But to an extent not like I see someone doing brain surgery and I wanna do that (laugh) but more in the area of filmmaking & photography. I think I’m proud to just be alive and still get the opportunity to do what I’ve always wanted to do since I was a kid. Which is to express myself through my art and share my passion with others. And I would love to have those things clients, brand opportunities, fans, etc but in my reality, I just wanna hear my nieces and nephews say I inspire them to try something and just take a risk on themselves that’ll me a lot to me.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
This is a good one! I’d say patience and the ability to share your art with others is a great reward, from my perspective. It’s a long long journey when you start in this world of being an artist, sometimes things don’t go as planned however when you start to put in the time and work you start to see the fruits of your labor come to life! All it takes is patience and hard work, those two things will take you to places you only saw on tv or dreamt of being in.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn how to not be impatient & being so hard on myself, I was told by many of my peers, teachers, and friends, to apply weight on myself, so I can push forward into being successful. I was at a point in my life when I kept doing that, it was just nonstop creating, creating, creating, creating because I was seeing other artists and filmmakers shriving and doing big things like working with brands and companies and I didn’t wanna get left behind. Doing that and being so focused on what others were achieving I dropped everything and almost quit. For the sake of my mental health, I took a break and came back better than ever! So it’s okay to push yourself but not too hard, everything that you want will come in due time you just have to work until it comes your way.
