We recently connected with Kevin Roberts and have shared our conversation below.
Kevin , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea started around 2009 or 2010. My mom, an avid gardener and Master Gardener, wanted to start a greenhouse for herself. She did the research and found plans to build a Quonset-style hoop house greenhouse. She went ahead and built a 24×24-foot structure.
Afterward, a lot of people started asking questions and showed interest in having one built as well. At the time, I was in college at BYU studying to become an engineer, so I saw an opportunity to gain extra experience and income. I began helping build these structures, and the interest continued to grow.
It developed organically from there. I soon took ownership over the company and over time, we improved the product, expanded our offerings to include a wider range of options, and developed the Gothic-style greenhouse, which has since become one of our most popular and best-selling designs.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My mom originally started the idea of building these hoop house structures for others while I was in school studying to become an engineer. I was naturally inclined to participate in the building process, and it quickly became a great source of income for me. Seeing the opportunity, I eventually turned it into a business a few years later and have worked hard ever since to continue improving and growing it.
Our most popular product is our Gothic-style hoop house, designed to withstand extreme weather conditions such as high winds and heavy snowfall. Our newest offering is the 8×10 Gothic-style greenhouse, perfect for those who don’t have the space or need for large-scale growing but still want to garden year-round.
A key thing our customers appreciate is that we are a family-owned and operated business. When you call, you’ll speak directly with the owner or the second in command. We take customer service personally—you’ll hear directly from us if any issues arise, and we will do our best to make sure you’re happy and that the product is working as it should.
My overall goal is to provide high-quality greenhouses that enable people to grow for themselves year-round, giving them greater control over their food sources and health.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Over the years, there have been points where the business wasn’t sustainable enough for me to support myself full-time. In the beginning, most of our work focused on installations, and we didn’t offer kits at that time. Fortunately, we had key family members who were available and willing to help with installations.
However, there eventually came a time when those key family members were no longer able to assist with the jobs. At the start of each new season, I would face the same problem—having no trained help available. It left me doubting whether it was worth continuing. I couldn’t support myself or employees full-time, and I often questioned whether to shut down or keep pushing forward, trusting that things would eventually work out and that the right workers would come along.
This has been an ongoing struggle, repeating for several consecutive years. Yet each time, I chose to move forward and find solutions. Every year, I somehow managed to find the right people to keep things going. Eventually, we adapted by shifting toward offering kits instead of focusing solely on installations, and that change has made all the difference.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
At the start of the company, we solely offered installation services. It was a lot of work and required a large crew to fulfill all the orders coming in each season. The challenge was finding enough crew members to work throughout the entire season to build the structures.
I realized there had to be a better way to offer this product. That’s when I came up with the idea of hoop house kits. Our reach expanded significantly—we went from building locally to shipping hoop houses to different states. Our customer base grew, and we are now able to ship across all 48 continental states.
While we still offer installation services, our main source of income has shifted to our hoop house kits.
