We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kevin Orosz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kevin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
Extremely early in my coaching career I was co-facilitating retreats internationally, primarily as a yoga teacher and breathworker. I living in LA when not traveling and was taking a coaching certification program (as I thought this was what I needed to start) that I was quickly outgrowing. I will never forget getting home from a particularly potent retreat in Costa Rica and having one of the participants reach out to me personally and ask “If I would coach him”. I was partially shocked that he was just coming to me like this, and at the same time knew that this was just the beginning. I said yes.

Kevin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kevin Orosz and I am a high performance coach to growing entrepreneurs as well as a relationship mentor to singles and couples. I am also a speaker, event MC, facilitator, and published author.
I began my journey interested in pursuing a Phd. in psychology and quickly re-routing to digital nomadism, minimalism, and personal development instead. I sold all my belongings after quitting my last “real job” and backpacked through SE Asia, India, and Nepal on a hero’s journey researching business ideas, blogging my personal philosophy, and deeply studying yoga and mediation. When I returned to the West I quickly found my teaching yoga, personal training, and eventually coaching private clients and co-leading events around the world. I haven’t stopped since.
I work in the space of supporting 1-on-1 clients around their relationship dynamics, sexuality, communication, and success in long term dating. I also lead group programs on the topics on tantra philosophy, embodied masculinity & femininity, and dating psychology. Many private mentorships over the years have involved high performance entrepreneurs and CEOs who come to me for total lifestyle balancing, and business scaling.

How did you build your audience on social media?
For me, social media never came naturally. Early on in my journal thinking I was going to be a university professor, I even studied social media dynamics and determined they were trivial at best. Years later as I traveled the world and became inspired by entrepreneurs, I created my Instagram account and really started to post to Facebook. When Facebook Live first came out I really doubled down and realized that speaking on video was something I wanted to master, to put my 10,000 hours into. So I made a simple commitment, to post every single day. My entire following has organically grown across all platforms as a ripple of impact from that choice.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
When you are in the coaching space and relying on your own organic social media audience as a source of potential clients, often you will start out conservative. I know I did, not wanting to rock the boat too much and build up a reputation.
Looking back however, this was not the best strategy. ESPECIALLY regarding content around the most taboo and simultaneously coveted topics in coaching: sex, money, and power. When I look back at my best, mini-viral genius “marketing” moments that landed me the MOST ideal clients, it was all from radical content. Be it a vulnerable wall of text, a brutally honest live, or even a hotly contested podcast, people really were craving my authentic expression. Unfiltered. And this made all the difference in my coaching business.
