Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kevin Montague. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kevin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I never thought about writing a book. What could I write anyone would want to read? I live a simple and non-complex life with no thrills and spills. After hearing about my Pastor and other friends writing books, I was encouraged to consider the idea.
In 2017, I began a weekly short social media video entitled JumpStart Encouragement and Prayer Broadcast. The goal of the broadcast was to encourage others to live better, see further, and achieve greater. Topics were taken from current events to inspirational thoughts designed to “jump-start” the day and give everyone hope.
I was contacted by DJ Robbo Fitzgibbons in 2019 to create a 3-minute “moment of inspiration” for several of his online music shows. I figured I could consolidate and share a JumpStart message with his audience. The moment was entitled “Spiritual Vitamins” and proved to be an impactful addition to his broadcasts.
Now I had my JumpStart messages and the Spiritual Vitamin spots, so I decided to use them as the body of my book in a daily devotional format. The final product contained 32 devotionals, and I named it Spiritual Vitamins – Daily nutrients for your spirit.
Spiritual Vitamins was published on August 3, 2020; it coincided with my twin girls’ birthday. This milestone marked a significant moment of success in my life.
Lastly, I remember presenting a copy to my ailing father and how this book brought him immense joy. His smile remains etched in my mind and heart as one of my proudest moments. His passing in November 2020, following my mother’s, added a bittersweet layer to my incredible journey. In the face of adversity, my story is a testament to resilience, perseverance, and the unwavering belief that every struggle carries the seeds of overcoming and spiritual triumph.
Kevin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a loving and proud father of beautiful, bright, fantastic twin teens – Morgan Faith and Logan Hope. I enjoy spending quality time with my family and going to the beach. Also, I enjoy good restaurants, watching and playing basketball, bowling, going to the movies and concerts, and listening to several genres of music, such as gospel, R&B, house, 80’s pop, jazz, classical, and classic go-go. I’m a huge pro wrestling fan.
I am a preacher, ordained minister, motivational speaker, the Chief Operations Officer at my church, and a published author. I am also the founder of KVM Ministries, LLC, which was developed to encourage others to lead with power while effectively and courageously serving with care.
KVM Ministries isn’t just a brand; it’s a source of compassionate guidance, actively touching the lives of many. My commitment to effective leadership, spiritual growth, and unwavering support and service makes this ministry outside the norm of church traditions and a contemporary beacon of inspiration.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In 2002, I embarked on a journey that I thought would be filled with joy and purpose as a licensed minister. This path would soon be overshadowed by a devastating loss that would test the very core of my resilience. I lost a loved one to suicide. It left me grappling with emotions that seemed impossible. A deep sorrow and defeat replaced my joy in achieving my ministerial license. The waves of grief overwhelmed me, affecting my emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.
During my journey, I also witnessed my mother’s decline in a nursing facility battling Alzheimer’s. Her passing in April 2019 and my father’s declining health became great motivators to do the impossible.
The road to recovery was full of discomfort. It took a lot of work, but through my growing and personal relationship with God and the unwavering support of close friends, I began to find a renewed sense of purpose. The pain that once seemed impossible gradually transformed into a catalyst for growth.
I remember presenting a copy of Spiritual Vitamins to my ailing father and how this book brought him immense joy. His smile remains etched in my mind and heart as one of my proudest moments. His passing in November 2020, following my mother’s, added a bittersweet layer to my incredible journey.
I learned that resilience is not about avoiding discomfort but embracing it, facing challenges head-on, and emerging stronger on the other side. The key was to acknowledge the pain, confront the grief, and allow myself the space to heal when and how God wanted me to and not according to a healing and grief book. It was a journey of self-discovery that required courage, faith, and a willingness to set new goals. In the process, I discovered the depth of God’s love, my inner strength, and the capacity to overcome life’s adversities. The desert of despair gradually gave way to an oasis of hope. I emerged from the shadows with a newfound understanding of my resilience.
I found a closer walk with God by navigating the uncertain terrain of grief. I discovered an unshakeable belief in my ability to overcome life’s challenges.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2017, sensing a need for change and a more significant impact on my personal and ministry life, I established KVM Ministries, LLC.
Recognizing the potential to serve a wider audience, I diversified KVM Ministries’ offerings to Preaching/Teaching, Premarital Counseling/Wedding Officiating, and later, Eulogy and Funeral Officiating Services.
I expanded my reach by pivoting from traditional ministry services to writing articles for various magazines and newspapers and preparing to speak at conferences.
What started as a solo venture defying traditional norms has become a testament to the idea that impactful ministries can extend beyond the confines of a physical church. With numerous families served and a diverse range of services offered, the journey of pivoting and creating opportunities has left a lasting impact on those I’ve had the privilege to “lead with power, serve with care.”
