We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kevin Marshall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kevin below.
Kevin , appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
In early 2020, I was diagnosed with COVID-19. That was a scary time for me because the disease was new. There weren’t any treatment options, and the only advice that my doctor provided me with was “stay hydrated.” While recovering, I chose to hydrate on love, joy, and hope. I had been interested in becoming an author, but I was always hesitant to take the risk. I would overthink the book’s material or convince myself I didn’t have the time to write the book. I was also sensitive to how other people would perceive my art. COVID-19 made me realize that life is too short to worry about all of those details. We must focus on the big picture and allow God to handle the details.
I had always written affirmations to myself and saved them on my phone. I was blessed with the idea to compile those and create a book. In 2020, I took a risk and released my first book “Hella Hopeful: 31 Daily Affirmations to Find Hope,” since then, I have released two additional books, “Love on the Moon” and “Hella Hopeful, Too!: 31 Daily Questions to Find Hope.”

Kevin , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Kevin Marshall, your neighborhood hope dealer. I am an author, attorney, and certified life coach. I have created a course to assist new authors in publishing their first book. The “60-Day Author Online Crash Course” is available on my website. Additionally, I offer life coaching sessions, which I’ve renamed “hope coaching.” I help people find hope in all aspects of their lives.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
As an author and certified life coach, I’ve learned that authenticity sells itself. When you are operating genuinely, people can feel it. There’s a target market looking for what you bring to the table. Focus on those potential clients.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I use “Kindle Direct Publishing” to self-publish my books. It’s easy to use and extremely effective in reaching an audience on Amazon. Additionally, I use “Printful” to design my merchandise. The links to my books and merchandise are integrated into my website.
