Kevin , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?

I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in film scoring and have maintained a steadfast commitment to expanding my knowledge and honing my craft. I consider a deep understanding of music to be the cornerstone of my expertise. However, I have encountered challenges along the way, particularly in managing my time effectively and navigating creative roadblocks. To address these challenges, I’ve proactively worked on time management strategies, sought guidance from seasoned professionals, and actively engaged in activities to stimulate and enhance my creativity. In essence, my unwavering dedication to learning and a structured approach to skill development have been pivotal in my pursuit of excellence in the field of film scoring.

Kevin Fong is a versatile artist based in Los Angeles, known for his roles as a film composer, music producer, and accomplished violinist. He deeply believes in the transformative power of music as a storytelling medium, capable of eliciting profound emotions and resonating with audiences. This passion for musical storytelling is evident in his impressive body of work. Presently, Kevin is working alongside renowned composer Harry Gregson-Williams, continually pushing the boundaries of his craft.

Kevin’s music is characterized by the skillful integration of Modular Synth technology, which serves as an essential tool in crafting innovative compositions that seamlessly blend electronic and traditional orchestration. His compositions create immersive and unique sonic landscapes, elevating storytelling to new and captivating heights. Proficient in Eurorack Modular Synth, Kevin brings a distinct and cutting-edge dimension to his music, with the goal of forging a deeper connection with listeners.

In 2022, Kevin embarked on an exciting musical journey by partnering with composer Chris Cheung to form the electronic duo ‘Distress Signal.’ Remarkably, they wasted no time and released their debut EP in the same year, showcasing their ability to push the boundaries of electronic music.

Kevin is a 2021 graduate of Berklee College of Music, where he pursued a Dual Major in Film Scoring and Contemporary Writing and Production. His time at Berklee equipped him with a strong foundation and the creative tools necessary for his flourishing career as a composer.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

At the core of my creative journey lies a deeply held aspiration: to utilize the medium of music as an instrument for profound self-expression. In my specialized work within the realm of film scoring, my ambition extends beyond the realms of spoken language and visuals. My aim is to craft compositions that transcend the boundaries of conventional communication, inviting audiences into an immersive and emotionally resonant experience. It is my fervent belief that through my art, I can forge a profound and indescribable connection, enriching the storytelling process with a tapestry of emotions that defy mere words.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

One of the most profoundly rewarding aspects of being an artist and a creative soul is the privilege of revisiting my own work over time. It’s a truly enriching experience to listen to the musical pieces I’ve crafted, each a unique reflection of different chapters in my life, characterized by an ever-evolving musical acumen and a continually expanding artistic vision. This journey allows me to witness my personal growth and transformation as an artist, culminating in the person I have become today. It serves as a poignant reminder of the deeply intertwined relationship between art and our individual life narratives, illuminating how our creative expressions intricately mirror our personal journeys and the profound impact they have on our evolution. Of course, there’s an additional source of immense fulfillment that arises when I hear my compositions on the grand cinematic screen. It’s an exhilarating experience that amplifies the sense of reward in my creative journey, as it not only signifies the culmination of artistic expression but also the powerful impact it has in the context of a larger audience.”
