We recently connected with Kevin DeCristoforo and have shared our conversation below.
Kevin , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
The legacy I am hoping to build within my community and the people I have met is for them to remember me as a good representation of God’s work. I don’t care about the numbers that are at the top of my social media pages, rather the quality and the message that is conveyed in my videos is what keeps me going.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The way I was introduced into creating content was from one of my closest friends Armaan Talreja (armaant on ig). He has become very successful with content creation at such a young age and it motivated me to take that step in that direction. I was originally day trading before content creating and with that comes a lot of financial risk, but with content there is no risk on the table. All you need to do is just pick up your phone and hit record. However, what holds people back from creating content is the the judgement they might receive from others. Trust me it is going to suck in the beginning, people are going to judge you, the quality of videos aren’t going to be that good, and the views will be low, but you have to recognise that this is all part of the process. You need to get your reps up in order to see results. The more experience you gain by posting videos the more progress you will see, it’s guaranteed to happen. There were 2 things that kept me going during those times where my views were low and when people were judging me. First advice I received was “what if the next video your post blows up.” This is very true because in this industry because if you make that one video that blows up and resonates with people then they will want to check out your other videos and will follow you if your quality is up to par. The other advice I received was, “this will be the story you will one day tell.” I’ve been made fun for the content I put out there and even till this day I get made fun of for it. But there will come a day where this will work out I’ll help others grow their social media presence and help them stay grounded throughout the whole process by keeping a strong relationship with God.
My content previously was about day trading and more of me trying to make money. Making this type of content didn’t bring me any joy what so ever. So after doing a 30 day challenge where I posted a video every single day for 30 days about documenting my journey of trying to make money I decided to take a break and truly try to dig deep on what i want my content to be about. During this time I began to travel with friends more often and found my passion for traveling. I remember one specific where I was mapping out what I want my content to be about and I realised that a majority of people’s dreams are to travel all around the world. Also I am in college, so I thought why not connect connect both of those together.
Currently the type of content I create on my page my life as a college student that is traveling the world. I am currently studying abroad and I have taken the opportunity to explore as many places as I possibly can. I have been to Ireland, France, Italy, England, Morocco, Spain, Monaco, and Portugal. this might seem like a lot of places but trust me there is a lot more to come.
You might be wondering, “how do you have the money to be able to travel this much,” or “you must use you parents money.” When I hear things like this all I have to say to them is “create content.” The biggest misconception that people have in the content creating industry is that you need to have a huge following to make money when that is not the case at all. I only have 1,500 followers on Instagram and I have been able to make stable money and be financially comfortable off of UGC deals. Brands see quality in videos even if you don’t get the most views.
Sorry if this is all over the place for you, thoughts just kept popping up as I was typing.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Since I am currently abroad and have been falling in love with traveling, it has given me a purpose and motivation to go all out and try my best with creating content. Especially with how flexible creating content can be and the memories I am able to capture it gives me drive to continue creating content and to one day make this my full-time job.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a content creator is the community that you build. To have people follow you to watch your videos and want to see you succeed is the best feeling ever. The kind interactions between me any my followers gives me more drive to put out better content for them.
