Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kevin Christian. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kevin, thanks for joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Yea I earn a full time living from being a creative. Honestly the best way I can put it is slow and steady wins the race. The more you stick to something, the more it will work out for you, that’s how focusing energy works. I’d been to college, worked a million jobs, finally acquired a high paying job in my field and the whole time I hated it, I was stressed and anxious, all I could think about was my art. So one day I just stopped, cold, stopped trying completely at my job, and they let me go. I decided to focus all my energy on myself and my craft, and literally since the day I made that decision, its been getting better and better, even through extremely rough parts. It’s been over 6 years now.

Kevin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My Bio lol:
Kevin Christian is a singer/songwriter, pianist/keyboardist, producer, composer, and dancer. Whether behind the mic, keys, or on the dance floor he delivers a show to remember. A Detroit native, born Kevin Michael Bausley II, he’s been influenced by music and dance his entire life, mother being a dance teacher and father being a seasoned musician. He teaches at several dance academies, as well as programs in non-art schools and is the cofounder of the art and music space, The LIVEing Room. Kevin is a multi-faceted artist who loves to perform and teach (especially children), with a love of the arts he continues to spread creativity in and on whatever platform he crosses paths with.
Music/Art is what I am. Creativity is what I live and breathe I would not be me without it and I am extremely grateful for my gifts.
I’d say my biggest accomplishment is take the leap to pursue my dream full time

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Treat us like we matter. Just like you go to the doctor or the grocer or the 9 to 5 job that you do everyday. We are just as important and relevant, we are necessary. PAY FOR ART. As much as we are passionate about what we do and it fulfills us inside, this is also how we SURVIVE, how we eat, and live. Society can treat us like we matter and not just celebrity, but all artists on all levels. More about the art and less about the fame.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Well the time that is most relevant is when I decided to stop working, my boss asked me if I could give the job the same energy I gave my art and I smiled and lied through my teeth and said yes. After that my energy changed, I gave up on trying to make the job work and they let me go. So I was able to get an even higher paying job after, thinking I could continue to force it, it literally lasted all of a couple weeks and I got let go again because I had no energy to pretend. The day that happened, literally in my walk to the parking lot with my stuff from my desk, my life changed. I had brought my girlfriend at the time with me to work that day, she needed a ride somewhere and I was going to take her on my lunch. I literally did not make it to my lunch before I was let go, when I got to the car, she looked me in my eye and said, “You can do this, if this is what you want, if you’re done chasing a life you don’t want, then chase the one you do want, and you will be great at it.” My life has never been the same since
