We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kevin Brooks. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kevin below.

Kevin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.

At a very young age. I believe 3 or 4. I would always stage action figures and create scenes. Also I would watch films with my mother or we would go to the movies. Watching performances and learning how the entire filmmaking process is done was really intriguing.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

Sure. I always knew I wanted to be involved in the filmmaking, as a kid I would study acting and the different genres. I always knew this would eventually be my life long profession but still was unaware of exactly how I was actually going to break into the industry. Fast forward to my Freshman year in college at Wiley in Marshall, Texas. I got an opportunity to be an extra in the film “The Great Debaters.” After seeing how that opportunity came about and the work the production crew and actors put in I just knew I had to do what it takes to make this a full time gig.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

Unlearn. I had to unlearn that I could only act or have the opportunity to book a gig when an agent sends you out. That came from going on a very long streak of no auditions and in that time recovering from an sports injury. During that time I spent a lot time in the house and I just had a long talk with myself and thought about roles I want to see myself in so I started writing screenplays and producing those projects.

What do you find most rewarding about being creative?

Seeing a project that you put blood, sweat, and tears into come to life.
