We recently connected with Kevin Ben and have shared our conversation below.
Kevin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
One of the hardest issues I face is in this day in age is people only looking at the surface. To everyone on the outside I am a rapper. You wouldn’t know that I’m well versed in many genres from not just hiphop but country, house music and more. Outside of music I dabble in many forms of art. A goal of mine has definitely been trying to express all parts of me within my brand.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a 31 year old artist from Baltimore Maryland and I just love art in all forms. I’ve achieved my own form of personal peace not only in my music but in myself with nothing but consistency and hard work. I believe anyone can achieve this.
I got into music as a way to speak when I couldn’t. To express when there wasn’t an outlet for me to do so. This journey has definitely been more of a safe haven so to speak. I honestly don’t know what I would be doing if not for music. I believe me introducing my brand to the public it’s going to give people a sense of care and quality that most people just don’t have anymore or just don’t care to provide. I want people to know that your surroundings don’t determine where you’ll end up. Everything about my past says I shouldn’t be here. I just want people to know that there’s more and that doesn’t have to be your story.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect in my opinion is seeing the effect your work has on people. To me there isn’t anything better than creating something in your vulnerability and seeing it resonate with people going through the same thing as you and they use it to open up and share as well.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Seeing as though the Internet is so vast, my only advice would be to use the Internet to your advantage. Youtube university is a real place. Nonstop googles and searches, anything that you can think of. Also never be afraid to reach out to your local media outlets.
