We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kevin Alvarez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kevin below.
Kevin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
It all started when i was just 12. Using a mac in a computer class to put together loops and now fast forward I own a professional recording studio of my own, performing at shows and slowly becoming a solidified figure in my home town for the things that i do. Never did it come easy to get here and i am nowhere close to done so I cant imagine the obstacles coming up but im up for it. Before owing a studio, I was recoding clients in my bedroom and a mic sitting next to my desk. Before I got hundreds of thousands of streams on my tracks there have been times where i felt discouraged of the 10 – 15 plays I would get on a track. But of course with persistence I only get better at the things i do and the bigger the audience gets
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the owner of Solstice Productions, A recording studio and photography company based in Lake Worth FL. I got into the industry by working with the underdog artist. People who i know are willing to put in the work even though the odds are stacked against them. I find these same people to drive me forward in my own artistry and business. Services my company offers are mixing and mastering for tracks, recording artists of course and photoshoots for anybody in need of one. As an artist I go by Kevin Solstice, A producer/rapper who also makes clothing.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Id say to treat every client with the respect and recognition of a successful artist. I always assume every client takes their craft very seriously so I make sure to give them a fast and clear experience with us. Something about shooting their photos in the studio or listening to their craft before they come in the door really shows our appreciation for our business.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
A book that really change my perspective about my business was Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. The classic book opened my eyes showing me that by being a business owner, that i am on a path to financial freedom that I wouldn’t be able to have with a regular job. Changed my views on how to flow cash into my business and different ways to look about it. Of course endless internet research and youtube tutorials as well just to keep informed on my craft.
