We were lucky to catch up with Kevaun, The Sunflower recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kevaun, , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?

I’ve always known I wanted to do entertainment since I was two years old. I would watch Barney and although I wanted to meet the purple dinosaur, I was focused on being on camera. As I got older, the dream of becoming a creative grew more and more. I feel like I was made to do nothing more than create.

Kevaun, , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Well yes! I’ve been doing content creation for over four years! I started on Instagram making different kinds of content from skits to Will and Grace re-enactments. (Shoutout to my sister for putting me on to the show.) But in 2021, my career took off on TikTok when I did re-enactments of Judge Lauren Lake from Paternity Court! I’ve also done Iyanla, Madea, and viral moments from the internet; but I don’t think those can hold a candle to what JLL did for me. It was a beautiful run and I sure do miss doing them, but it was time for a new thing and I am only doing original content!

I also created two podcast shows. The first one is entitled The Sunflower Garden Podcast (2022) where I share advice I’ve given to myself over the years to my beautiful sunflowers who needs to hear it just as much as I do. And I launched my new podcast earlier this year entitled The Liberation of Black Music Podcast! I talk about Black artists that don’t get enough recognition for their contributions to the music industry, games with my friends, and interviewing wonderful upcoming Black artists, musicians, and/or producers who are making their way into the industry!

I am EXTREMELY proud of my music journey I have participated in last year. I released an EP entitled Live Laugh Sunflowers on SoundCloud! And we just celebrated the first year anniversary of the project! I am still amazed and in awe that there are people that still listen to it till this very day and I am working on getting it on all streaming platforms!

To sum up the Kevaun, the Sunflower brand, it is all about uplifting people to be iconic and help someone follow their dreams! And I believe what sets me apart from others is that I am intentional with what I do. I never do anything if I don’t have a passion towards something.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?

I would simply say give them the same energy you would give to a mainstream artist. I was once in the mindset of waiting until someone is famous to support them, but that wasn’t the right way to think. Support them RIGHT NOW. It hits even harder knowing that I am a creative looking for support from others.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

My family and friends mostly. I want to do so much for them because they really do support me and love me so much. I think about all the things I want to buy them, the places I want to take them, and the amazing opportunities I want to set them on. They do so much for me and I want to do a LOT for them.
