We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kev Hammond. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kev below.
Alright, Kev thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
I went to a Jazz festival back in 2019. I had just started to decide to tale myself seriously as a photographer and I would literally just take my camera everywhere to just brush up on my skills. I had just gotten a new camera and took pictures of everything at the festival and I would post it and tag the street vendors in it. One of the vendors contacted a couple of days after the event and they told me that they liked my work and that they wanted to book a shoot with me for their other business that they have. I was nervous as all get out because first impressions are everything!! I get to the location of the shoot and in my head I was still trying to figure out how I could just cancel lol. IT was too late, the client had showed up and they told me their vision and what they wanted. In the end, it all worked out and the client told me that they received positive feedback about it! After that, my fear went away and I had to realize that if people are contacting you about your services then they have already seen your work and know what you are capable of.

Kev, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kev Hammond, I am 35 and I reside in Delaware. For the most part I am a very chill and laidback person who appreciates life and the small things that most people tend to overlook. I am heavy into the arts, whether that is museums, music, paintings, movies, anything artistic and creative! I am a photographer/writer and soon to be filmmaker. I got into the photography randomly lol. I would always have my phone with me and take pictures of scenery or things that I just thought would look cool. I would have people tell me that I had the “eye” and I would just brush it off but as time would go on and I transitioned from a camera phone to an actual camera, I started to believe what everyone was saying.
I’ve always loved movies and how they were shot and just the detail and nuances that goes into telling a story. My favorite filmmaker is Spike Lee, so understanding why his camera angles were set a certain way or or why the lighting was something that just stuck with me. I went through trying to figure out what I wanted to do in life and when I turned 30, that’s when I decided I wanted to step out on faith and be and start this journey and create “Think Snap” which has been running for the past 4 years now.
I think what sets me apart from others is my attention to detail and the fact that I like to connect with people. One thing that I was taught at a young age was that we are all put on this earth to be of service to one another. When people contact me for my services, it is up to me to bring their vision to life and to help them feel good.
I think what I am most proud of and what I would like everyone to know is the fact that as I mentioned before, I am here to be of service. I stand on integrity and honor. My work is tailored to the individual client. A lot of times, you will have business owners who will not listen to the voice of their people who support them. I never want to be like that, I want my clients to know that they have a voice and that the goal is to ask, listen and them implement I do all types of photography from portraits, fashion, landscape, real estate, advertising. I am also just starting to get into film making! I have a few scripts I have written and am looking to shoot them soon!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The goal and mission is to give people a voice, inspire change make people happy. There is this quote that says ” Art should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed” We live in a world now where everyone is walking on eggshells and are afraid to have conversations that should be had. the mission is also to provide people with a sense of joy.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect is seeing the growth in a project and helping others. When I start something, I see the potential in it and I like to take my time with the small details. Just seeing the progression of a thing and tweaking it to where you feel as though it is perfect! and in doing that, you end up creating something that your client will love
