We recently connected with Keturah Miller and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Keturah, thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
One of the key factors that has greatly contributed to my healing journey is gaining an understanding of my mother’s life story and, more importantly, recognizing her humanity. It’s easy to overlook the fact that our parents are individuals first and foremost. Regardless of whether they made mistakes or did their best, they were likely doing what they thought was right at the time.
Our parents didn’t have access to resources like therapy, coaching, and other forms of healing that we do today and most likely lacked the support they needed to heal and grow as individuals. Learning to approach my mother with compassion and empathy has allowed me to appreciate the way she raised me as a valuable gift and not see the way she raised me “as wrong.”
One of the things my mother did right as a single parent was relocating from Derby, KS, (in the middle of the country) to Anaheim, CA (a more fast-paced and more cultured city), to create a new life for herself and her children. This move exposed my brother and me to new cultures and experiences, and demonstrated the importance of taking risks in life.
Witnessing my mother’s resilience as she embarked on a new life with two children and as a single mother showcased the courage and bravery that is truly needed if we want a new life. I am immensely grateful that my mother paved the way for a new beginning.
The example my mom set by taking risks has greatly influenced my life. Her fearlessness motivated me to take on new challenges and try new things. As a result, I ventured to Africa on my first solo international trip and pursued a career as a leadership coach while in my communications career and also went back to school. I’m incredibly grateful for her inspiration.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a leadership and self-development coach with a focus on self-love. My goal is to help women become their best selves through coaching and healing. In my intimate containers, I guide and support women in committing to radical self-care and authentic expression, which helps them achieve more fulfilment in life.
What sets me apart is that I’m a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) coach. As a woman of color coach, it’s important to show up in this space more than ever. In 2019, only 3% of leadership and executive coaches were from the BIPOC community, so it’s important for me to be of service. Diversity is crucial for a more inclusive society and organization.
I take immense pride in my clients who choose to invest in themselves. Watching them begin their healing journey and eventually living a more fulfilling life brings me so much joy. I’d like to think that I am the bestie, coach and big sister that you’ve never had and always wanted. I want to see you live your best life and receive all that you desire and I want to help you get there.
If you’re interested in working together, I’d be honored to be your next coach. I offer coaching packages for 3 or 6 months. For more information, you can visit my website: keturahchaldean.com.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective business strategy for growing my clientele has been storytelling through social media and referrals. Sharing my personal success story and those of my clients inspires others to seek powerful transformations. Additionally, I offer a referral program for free sessions if a client’s referral books a session. People appreciate being able to see the benefits of what a coach can do for them when they are working with me.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Absolutely! I’d also choose this profession a lot earlier. I let fear take over a lot in my life and the idea of public speaking and coaching terrified me for years. As someone who has been a writer in communications/behind the scenes for over 20+ years, switching over to the coaching space has been so impactful and soul-fulfilling. Helping others grow, heal and go-after the life they deserve, is such a beautiful heart-filled space and career to be in. I feel very lucky and blessed to be able to do what I am doing.
