Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Keta Garrett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Keta, appreciate you joining us today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?

My Mother is my hero and will always be! My Mother passed away unexpectedly March 26, 2019 and will always be the strongest woman I have ever known. There were many times she pushed through life challenges just to be there for others even though she was battling a daily pain. Often times, she was strength and encouragement for others even though she needed to be encouraged herself. She taught me the importance of being who God created me to be and how to navigate through any obstacle that came my way. Her endless love and support is unmatched and I will forever cherish that! Although she’s no longer with me, she provided me and honestly still provides the tools needed to continue to move with purpose in all that I do.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

I am a native of Atlanta, Georgia and I love motivating and coaching others! I am a proud wife and mother of two boys. Growing up, my parents always encouraged and supported me in all that I set out to do. I’ve always had an entrepreneur mindset and desired to start a business where I could make an impact on people. I became an Independent Consultant with Paparazzi Accessories and started Glamorous Jewelz Collection, LLC in May 2017. Our jewelry is not only fashionable, it’s affordable selling for only $5 per piece! Also, we offer a Signature Zi Collection Series for $25 and I can tell you that it’s quality and fashion forward pieces that everyone is guaranteed to love! I currently hold the rank of Premier Producer and lead a team of over 300 business partners. I also offer hands on training to ensure they are successful as well.

I absolutely LOVE what I do and I love seeing the joy and confidence my customers have once they wear our fabulous jewelry! With this business, not only am I sharing beautiful jewelry, I’m also able to spread hope through words of encouragement each week during my live jewelry shows. I’ve had customers to tell me that they’ve never experienced a live show like mine and that they’ve left the show feeling encouraged to keep pushing through whatever obstacles they may be facing. This brings me great joy to know that I’m able to offer hope at times when it’s needed the most. For me, it’s so much more than $5 jewelry, it’s truly a ministry!

I have a passion for empowering others around me and I am committed to showing others that their setbacks are only opportunities for a comeback! Today, I stand strong and purposed to do all that God has created me to do!

I also have another business that is very near and dear to me. In December 2018, my husband and I started our very own custom business named KG Kreations. KG Kreations offers a wide variety of products from custom tumblers, T-Shirts, Tote Bags, Pillows etc. I’ve always had a thing for personalized items and thought why not pour into something I love to do! We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Where do I start?!! This journey hasn’t always been easy! In March 2019, I loss the most important person in my life! My Mother Teresa Jones Foster, was the most influential and supportive person in my life! Losing her caused me to go into a depressed state and I didn’t want to continue doing life much less running two businesses. The suddenness of her passing felt as if someone had knocked the wind out of me! Due to this, I felt like throwing in the towel several times, but had to remember my why! Also, I recalled the many conversations my Mom and I had regarding business and how to never give up no matter how hard life gets. On those days I felt low, I could hear her say, “Consider your assignment”! Those few words were so impactful because in those moments, I realized that my yes is connected to so many other people and I could not just abort my assignment! My faith has allowed me the ability to recover from some of my toughest moments. At times, I could feel the bend; however, I’m thankful that I didn’t break! Healing was necessary in my process and I’m grateful that I can now help others women heal and move forward into their destined place!

Any advice for managing a team?

When managing a team it’s important to lead from the front! I love playing an active roll and connecting with my team as this builds trust and fosters a collaborative working environment. Listening is also equally important as you know how to service those that have been assigned to you. Realizing that it takes EVERYONE to build an organization and getting in the trenches when necessary is very important when leading a team.

Maintaining high morale is also important because everyone wants to feel valued within any organization. Showing your team that you truly are invested in their development helps builds a stronger team and stronger leaders. It’s great to have followers, but building other leaders are essential. When you show you truly care and actually walk the walk, others will be more inclined to do what they can to drive success within the organization.
