We recently connected with Kesley Page and have shared our conversation below.
Kesley, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
I had a young client this year he was 12 years old. His mom brought him in after a baseball tournament because his back was sore. During the massage I found some areas in his back that didn’t feel quite right. I suggested they visit the doctor. The mom came back a week later and left me a note saying that the doctor told them I saved the boys life. The spots were cancerous and not easy to find. Getting massage has endless benefits and I care about my clients. I’d like to say this was the only time I’ve experienced this but it’s not. I find unusual spots all the time and more times then not it’s cancer that the client would have never known was there.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
When people think of massage therapy a variety of things may come to mind, relaxing spas to airport chair massage. I’ve been in this field for 16+ years learning new things all the time. Medical massage therapy is where I specialize. The medical knowledge I’ve acquired over the years sets me apart from many other types of massage. My clients usually come to me in severe pain with major injuries, recovering from surgery or chronic illnesses. I enjoy the research and networking to discover new techniques. It is important to stay up to date on procedures and the medical process. Even today I was talking with a physical therapist and said “hey is there any new treatments for plantar fasciitis?”
HEAL615 is my business. HEAL stands for health, energy, awareness and love. In order to heal we need to understand our health, balance our energy, become aware of what is really going on in our body and love ourselves enough to do the work. Self care doesn’t come easy to everyone and there are so many forms. When I’m doing a stretch session with clients one of things I show them is the difference between stretching and relaxing. Can they lay in a supported position, propped by blocks or pillows, and just fully let go and relax? They are usually shocked by this concept and I see that light bulb go off for them. An ah ha moment. Life can be so demandingly busy before we know it 10 years has went by with our shoulders glued to our ears, weekly headaches and very little true rest. The most valuable gift you can give to yourself is the time and space to heal.
Some of the modalities I have studied over the years to help my clients are trigger point therapy, post surgery lymphatic drainage, ptsd massage, and massage for shoulder injuries.
Other things I’ve studied have included yoga, herbalism, and holistic life coaching.
I am also safe zone certified. My most recent course I’ve signed up for is to learn about trauma recovery coaching from Radiant Coaches Academy. Every little bit helps. Each book I read and park I visit and plants I find. It all adds to how I can support my clients on their journey through healing.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the most important lessons I have unlearned in massage therapy is being quiet. In school they tell you to stay quiet and let the clients drift off or sleep. That’s all well and good but I do very therapeutic work and that requires a lot of feedback. I noticed very quickly in my career that the clients I talked with and asked a lot of feedback questions and explained things to were the ones coming back. While there is a time and a place in massage for the clients to relax and drift off. There is also importance in getting to know what the clients are dealing with. What have they tried that helped? What have they tried that didn’t help? When did the issue start? Is it related to an injury or compensation? Also clients that are in that dreamy state are more likely to not mention if they need a change in pressure or other adjustments because they don’t want to interrupt their slumber. Even my deep tissue clients will often snore so yes the therapeutic work can be relaxing also. I just put more intention into them feeling better for several weeks vs the 1-2 hour appointment.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
So so so many books! Two books I recommend often are The four hour work week and The energy bus. These two books I revisit often. They provide framework for different ways of thinking while keeping your focus on what you truly desire. Everyone wants a thriving business but not at the cost of being isolated from your family. A business isn’t your life it is just a part of your life. Even things like how your email is set up can make a big difference in your productivity and how you enjoy your day. Learning to delegate and set healthy boundaries are key to success. Both of these books can be found on audible and at most libraries.
