We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keshroy Spencer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Keshroy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
In 2020, I had a vision to create a dedicated platform for musicians, artists, bands, DJs, and live music venues to find the perfect match for their shows. Despite having limited knowledge of building tech companies or gig-booking mobile apps, I was determined to pursue my dream. With the help of my siblings, who share my passion for music, we overcame our challenges and created a mobile app that offers a mix of features with all the necessary ingredients for successful events and productions of any size. We believe that our app will be a game-changer for musicians and live music venues, as it addresses some of the biggest pain points for both. Our unique approach to solving these problems puts us in a great position to make a positive impact on the music industry.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a passionate drummer who has transitioned into an audio engineer, with over 15 years of experience as a musician and talent acquisition specialist, I have gained valuable insights from both a client and owner perspective when it comes to booking gigs. Having performed for various events and artists in the tri-state area, I’ve personally experienced many of the challenges that musicians and entertainment industry professionals face. These experiences led me to create Muznet, a B2C mobile app that connects musicians with live music venues securely and seamlessly.
Our app is unique in the market due to a few key features that set us apart. While we are not reinventing the wheel, we are revitalizing how artists use it to find job opportunities. We have listened to the feedback from our community, and my team and I are committed to providing a dedicated platform that solves the problems faced by musicians and venue owners alike.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I first met Austin Woodlin, my co-founder, at True United Church many years ago. He was a musical prodigy with an exceptional understanding of music and an extraordinary ability to play multiple instruments with great precision. Before meeting Austin, I had very little knowledge of music, let alone the business side of the industry. However, with his guidance, I quickly excelled in my own right. He helped me find gigs, network with like-minded individuals, and connect with mentors along the way. Over the years, we remained close, and when I came up with the idea of developing a gig-mobile app, he was one of the first people I thought of.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
One of the most effective ways we grew our user base was by being transparent, connected, and well-informed individuals who not only prioritize our community but also humbly and honorably address the challenges our community faces.
