We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kesha Carmichael. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kesha below.
Hi Kesha, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Where do I begin? As a child I had three dreams of what I wanted to be when I grew up. One was a ballerina, the second was a wedding planner, and the third was I wanted to be a florist, but I didn’t want to make flowers out of flowers. I want to take different objects and design them into flowers and let’s just say my fourth dream was just to enjoy life. I grew up in Baltimore city, I went to a great high school, and in my junior year of high school met the man that I would marry years later. You never know what trials and tribulations life is going to throw towards you until you start living your life. My senior year in high school I found out that I was pregnant, scared and worried about what my future will bring. I had to make some changes to life and put my dream on the back burner and that’s when I decided to complete high school and get a job to take care of my growing family. I had my oldest son Jordan when I was 17 years old. I got my first job at Chuck E. Cheese and I actually was a puppeteers. I was actually Chuck E. Cheese the mouse. I put the dream of me being a wedding planner and a florist on the back burner and decided that my dream and my goal was just to live life and take care of my family for a year and by the time I got pregnant with my son so that pushed my further further away. I took on jobs in retail as store managers and I got the biggest job ever years later of being a store manager of a major shoe store . I got my body to tell me that something was wrong on September 17, 2010. I was diagnosed with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. My body has started to show me that the job that I was doing was becoming too much. I had to make a decision by getting a job that wasn’t going to take a lot of stress on my body. I took a part time job at David’s bridal. Being there gave me a glimpse and vision of meeting so many different people. I’m a florist and wedding planner, and had the honor of meeting someone that would take my dream and make it a reality. I knew at that moment that it was time for me to make a big rest and take a big rest in this life so I decided to do part time designing Bouquets. Not realizing that post. Those pictures on social media people will see them and I start to get a lot of increase about my designs and people want to know how they can order. As the years moved on, I stated David’s bridal health continued to go up and down, but I was determined to stay focused. I picked up a part-time job as an assistant to a wedding planner. I worked in that role for one year and she asked me if I wanted to train to be a wedding lead. . It was a big commitment. It would take some of my Saturdays that we would have to request off from Davids and focus on doing it. I said what the hell and I jumped on foot to the ground and I took off running. A year had gone by and I started to notice that I was really good at it. I kept getting more and more weddings and I stepped back and I prayed, and I asked God if he could show me the direction that he wants me to go in. I spoke with my husband and I spoke with my sons, and they all said to mommy this is your dream. You always raised us to work hard to make your dreams come true and make them reality no matter what decision you make in life we have your back . So March 17, 2021 I took in my letter of resignation to Bridal and decided to take on. Wedding planning full-time. When 2022 came in I had a total of 25 weddings booked for me and the company that was an independent contractor for along with doing that I also was designing bouquets and selling them online and it was a big race. I’m 46 and a mother of six boys and I always tell my children to live their dream. To file the path that God put you on. Don’t you be an unoriginal person in this world. be unique.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Telling you about myself again, I’m a mother, a wife and 46 years old and I have six sons. My oldest son is 29 years old and my youngest son is six years old. I love, I love life. I look at life as being every day as unique every day is a new chapter in a book they were writing. I saw Bouquets for free for people who were getting married, and didn’t have a lot of money to afford to get Bouquets. I took some online classes to become a florist, when he comes down to parties, I love parties. I love decorating and running them. I love going to them. And I always go all the way out when my kids have birthday parties, graduation parties or just any kind of celebration. I truly believe this is my calling in life. Why did I choose my business name? I’ve always, even as a kid, been a unique person. My favorite was unique. I know it wasn’t like everyone else. I always stood out and made my purpose and light this stand out. When I design my bouquets, when I run my weddings, I always put my own unique spin on everything that I do, that’s why I chose the name uniquely Created co designs

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn about myself and about life is that you get one time in this life. There’s not a book that’s not a journal, there’s not a lesson that teaches you how to live this life. You have to take a rest, you have to get out there and walk out in faith and not by sight. And that’s why I decided to teach myself that in this life things are going to happen. The world is gonna keep being the world and always know that the world is watching. So I decided the moment I was old I was going to seek out my dream and make it a reality .

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
How I built my social media presents was kind of different when I first started off. I thought it was all about sharing pictures of the designs that I created. Every time I created something I always made sure I shared a video. Then here comes TikTok when I can actually be creative and do things my own way, and as my favorite word is, do things uniquely. I started to make sure that I was sharing my videos and telling my audience what I was doing in my videos on social media TikTok right now I have 964 followers pushing for that thousand followers. Learning from other people who post on social media, which you were not to do. Still haven’t captured the right audience, but I’m definitely working on it.
