Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kerry Wurl. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kerry thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Reel Krazy Girl was created when I noticed women’s fishing apparel was slim to none. There were very few choices and not a lot of designs. There is a big market that is not being targeted, lots of women love to fish. So I started doing research, looking into getting trademarked, I got help from family on getting a website up and running and we worked on designs. It was a lot of work but I feel it’s all worth it.
Kerry, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
What would you want to know about me? Well I love the outdoors and fishing. I started fishing with my grandfather and dad around the age of 5 years old. I’m big into conservation and keeping up on fishery science and management. I grew up in Illinois and moved to Florida about 8 years ago. I’ve fished my whole life but didn’t really know about how our fishery worked tell I moved to Florida and started talking to different people involved in the fishing industry, it’s crazy how many people it takes. Lots of people love fishing, it’s a big following and everyone I’ve met along the way have been great, and I’ve been getting a lot of support for my fishing apparel business. The brand I’m building I want to reflect the love I have and others have for the outdoors, even if you don’t fish the apparel I’ve designed is great for all outdoor activities. There’s swim-ware, beach towels, leggings, shorts, rash guard shits which are 50 % UV protected all made with the love of the outdoors.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my social media audience has been no easy task it’s a full time job but has been growing slowly over time. I’ve even built some great relationships through social media it’s a great network of people and everyone seems to help everyone. The most important thing is to be present and interact with your followers also help others grow on there platforms too.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My most effective strategy to growing my business has been social events and word of mouth. There’s nothing like meeting people face to face, and being a representative of my business.
